    Default Need Plexi/Acrylic Cut

    Hi All!

I'm in need of a vendor or someone from here that can cut plexi for some custom Pachi's I'm doing. I was working with a company called Plexilab and they seem to not want my business. I shipped them the plexi pieces from the machine I was customizing and they shipped me totally different sizes. After I notified them about the wrong size they said they would ship me a new set. Well its been a month and I've been getting a bunch of bull emails saying they will ship the replacement plexi. I've tried cutting the plexi myself, but do not have the time or patience to do it. If there is anybody here that would want to do it, we could put it in the Pachitalk auction and I will pay you through there. I'm needing at least five sets start with. Each set would consist of (2) 1/16 pieces of plexi for the belly glass, reel glass, and top glass. I will ship the pieces from the machine to you.

May the Force be with you!
    and the Darkside!

any local sheet metal shop will have a shear for cutting metal, it works great on thin plexi.

I actually thought of that and went to 3 different places that were close to me and two of the places said they didn't have the time and the glass place wanted an arm and a leg to cut the pieces. If I can't find anybody then I'm thinking of buying a table saw blade thats made for cutting plexi/acrylic. I was using a jigsaw with a metal blade that cut good, but you had to clamp down the plexi for each cut. I tried two pieces at once one time and they melted together. It was just a big pain!

Ace hardware is willing to help on almost anything, I've had them cut glass, cut and thread pipe, repair screens etc.

if they say they are too busy, tell them they lost you as a customer!!!

I would do it for you but my saw is in TN now & I am still in NJ. I got a scroll saw ( table model) from Harbor Freight, does a great job. I don't remember the cost but it was cheap.

Since it's thin plexi, you should be able to score it, and snap it off on the edge of a table. I do it all the time to make baffles and light covers for my fish tanks. Try it on a scrap piece first.

Here's the website I found with the table saw blade. Its under tools and accessories. It seems expensive but it should last long since I'm only going to be cutting 1/16 plexi. They have a ton of products and give you tips on cutting and drilling. http://www.sdplastics.com/

Thanks for the link, for the price and size its worth a try. I could actually use it in my office, instead of going back and forth to my garage.

try home depot or lowes they'll cut it for you . I cut mine with a dremil and cutting disk (it actually melts it at high speed but gives a great edge no chance of cracking it ...)

Careful about cutting plexi with a table saw. A shop teacher friend got cut doing that. Use the right blade.

I thought I would give cutting the plexi myself a try again, so I purchased the plastic cutter blade. I read more about the blade and decided its worth a try. I'll have to wait till I get back from vacation to try it out. I'm still thinking about buying the the scroll saw FTKServices mentioned. Thanks everybody for there replies!

I cut the Plexi for all of the ball boxes I built on my cabinets. Use a steel ruler as a straight edge and cut into the Plexi about 6 times in each direction. Total of 12. Go slowly as not to get out of the groove being cut.

    Now the tricky part.

Put the Plexi on a corner of a table. Align the "Scratch mark" up right along the edge of the table. Use one arm to hold the Plexi flat on the table and the other (wrist to elbow) to Wack the overhanging Piece. Depending how thick the Plexi is that you are cutting you may need to score the Plexie more than 12 times.

I cut into it until I was at least 1/3 the way through.

I cut plexie with a table saw, set the blade height so it just barely clears the plexie. I've seen it suggested to place masking tape over where you are going to cut to help prevent chipping but I don't. The cuts are clean. As with all power tools, use safe operating practices and use safety glasses and ear plugs.
