Default Three Star Nagoya Center Tulip

Hi, I've recently started work on repairing a vintage pachinko machine and it seems to be well in order except a few things. Anyhoo, the center tulip had some terrible jamming happening to it so I unclogged it by removing the tulip. I got all the balls out of the general area then I started investigating the tulip and I noticed that the mechanism to open and close the tulip was bent out of place, so I bent it back. It's seems to work much better now but there are still issues. First off, when the tulip is in the open state, and a ball goes in through the the sides, it closes the tulip, and the ball is stuck under the pitchers, but you cannot open the tulip again with a ball going down the middle, is this normal? I thought that it was strange so I took off a working tulip and the bottom part of the leaver is slightly curved and let's the ball run through. On the weird tulip however the bottom part of the leaver has a lip on the tip which prevents the ball from going anywhere, is this normal too, if so what's it's purpose? What should I do? I was thinking to just snap the lip off, which would let the ball pass freely but I'm scared that this would just screw thing up more. Thanks!

In both previous photos, the wings of the tulip are closed. When a ball goes into the tulip when the wings are open, it get stuck on the bottom “arm” of the leaver. I think it’s becouse of a little lip on the arm of the leaver. Here’s some more photos (wings closed). Nothing is cracked to my knowledge.

im looking at this wondering if it is some kind of a 2 hit pocket.. where the tulip stays open for two balls then is closed after the second ball enters the open tulip..

holding the tulip upright, feed 2 or 3 balls into the top.. do they pass threw or jam up??

I have seen tulips with that bottom plastic bent a little bit and it won't work. Your looks pretty good from what I see.

Mopar has the correct idea. Hold that tulip vertical and keep dropping balls into it to see what is going on.

The rust on that metal tube could be cleaned up with q tips and window cleaner and polish. That might help.
I don't see any broken plastic or anything obvious.

It worked at one time correctly; I don't think breaking pieces off will help.

I found a spare tulip that looks very similar.
On the front of the tulip, inside the pocket, there is a plastic post that diverts the pachinko ball back when the tulip is closed.
This plastic post might be broken off? See red arrow. (Camera date is incorrect...)
