Default Looking for my first machine...

I found this machine on my local Craigslist, is it a Model A, B, or C?

    Japanese Pinball pachinko machine

I was going to offer the person $25 because they said "it needs some work". How hard would it be to fix?

Thats a classic Nishijin Model B machine. Early 70's model. Those are great machines providing the rear mechanism is all there.

Ask the seller for photos of the rear of the machine and post them here. We can tell you all about it. Help you fix it too.

If its all there it would still be a good buy between $30 and $40.

    Welcome to PachiTalk Tupin!!

Yes, it's always a good idea to ask the Seller for clear pics of the Rear and a good close up of the cell front, that way you can be sure the pachinko is complete, as the pics in Craigs List Ads are not usually very clear

As Microbus says, if you are unsure yourself, then just post the pics here and the members will happily tell you if it is complete
, or if they notice anything untoward

for a starter machine, it would be worth $25 if major parts are not missing on the back.

check to see that the cell (the face of the machine) does not have waterstains. stains cannot be removed and it takes a lot of work if you want to completely refinish it.

on the back, the most common missing parts are the 1) upper ball chute cover. this will cost at least $25 to buy a replacement, or you can use a scrap of wood, aluminum or acrylic to make one, and 2) the covers over the jackpot regulator and the center jackpot mechanisms. these are not essential and the machine works fine without them, but could cost $25 each if you want to replace them with originals.

    bottom line is

    a) Are you interested in this machine just to mess around with and learn about pachinko? or

    b) Do you want to restore this to mint condition as a collectible?

if a, then you can pay $25 and learn lots here on pachitalk with LOTS of support from the forum

if b, then wait and find a nicer machine to fix up.

once you start collecting, which you probably will , this machine is just an "average" machine. not unusual, not a striking design. you see ones like this all the time.

hope to see you SOON telling us about your first pachinko.

Silly question probably, but how would one mount one of these to a wall? I'm guessing a custom cabinet like this one would have to be made?:

Going to look at it Saturday, I think I'll offer him $20 because he says he's never used it.

I'm guessing I should be looking to see if there is water damage, and if there are balls. If there are, I'll open up the front and drop some balls down and trigger a jackpot, just to make sure that works.

Could I fashion some sort of stand so I don't have to hang it?

carefull droping balls into it.. if there is not enought balls in the top hopper balls will jsut stack and jam up in the back..

take a good long look at the back and see if there is any thing that looks broken or damaged.. usualy if all the parts are there then with a bit of work it will work again...

with any luck your going to have a nice Pachi

    Good Luck to ya

as far a cabinet there are lots of designs and plans in our cabinet section.. or just a simple set of feet will work in a pinch

Yes, that a vintage Japanese pachinko!!

You will often see pachinkos listed under lots of odd or wrong names..pachinco, Chinese pinball, Japanese vertical pinball etc. etc. And other names and other combinations of names..

And no need for a cabinet or to hang it, a lot of people just use 2 simple feet screwed to the bottom or sometimes the sides..

I think I have about 11 pachinkos?? and only one of those is actually in a cabinet (and wall mounted), the rest live quite happily on 2 wooden feet, which you can easily make yourself

All the feet are attached to the bottom of the pachinkos, with the exception of Maharaja, it is an aluminium frame and the feet have been side mounted,

Got it today!! I paid $25 for it, which seems pretty fair.

Here are the pictures of it:

    Closeup of the playfield.

The back has a wire that I can't figure out where it goes.

This is how the machine sits, is this correct?

Oh, and guess how many balls this came with. Twenty. So yeah, I'm going to need to get some more. Happy I got my first machine.

Thats a pretty clean Nishijin B model! I'm also fond of the metal legs compared to homemade wooden ones. You got a great deal!!

I dont have one with that "springy thingy" in the center feature. I'm curious as to how that works.

    Congrats!!!

Thanks. I'm gonna go test the lights with a 9 volt.

That springy thing isn't really a spring, it's more of a corkscrew that the ball rolls down on and activates the bottom tulip.

I'm heading to RadioShack tomorrow to get 9V leads. I just take the positive and wrap it around the orange screw, and screw it back in, same goes for the negative lead.

Also might be getting more balls soon. I'm guessing 500 balls would be adequate?

ya dont have to wrap it around... unscrew the both leads there is a hole in the post to insert the bare wires into and then tighten the screws back down pinching the wires in the holes.. dont tighten them to tight as the colored plastic caps will break off the screws..

positive or negative to the orange it dont matter either way

    Welcome to the addiction!

and no.. 500 balls won't be enough. It will be enough to get the machine working and testing properly... but you'll need about 800 to 1,000 or you'll be constantly filling up the hopper.

I really like that center piece and spiral... I've seen ones like this posted before... would like to have one for my collection. It's a good one to start your collection with (and yes... you will soon have a collection).
