Default My first machine and a few questions.

Howdy all. So I went to the local swap meet last weekend looking for parts for my Dodge. Turns out I am easily distracted because I left with this.

I've been cleaning it up a bit aver the past week and there are a couple things I noticed.

First of all, this picture shows a loose linkage. After looking about on this site, I can see where it should go. The question on this is, what is it's purpose? It appears that it just opens the chute for a winning ball to exit into the "lost" bin. couldn't this just stay open?

Secondly, in this picture picture you can see I'm missing the white plastic/spring loaded kajigger that keeps the balls in the jackpot chute nice and tidy. Can I just make a sort of "chute lid" from plastic to keep things in line?

And lastly, I'm a bit confused on the "model a/b/c". How do I figure out what I've got?

Thanks a million for any insight you might share,
    ~Rev

    Welcome!

That loose rusty looking linkage should be straight up in the plastic above it. This is the push rod that resets a large plastic arm in the housing above after the payout balls dump.

You can make a lid, ask other members if they are willing to part with one of theirs, or buy a replacement. There are a couple members here that reproduce them.

You have a model "B". I'm sure another member will be along to help you ID the year it was made, but generally these were made in the 70's.

    Hope all that helps.

there is a thread somewhere that shows all 3 models in pictures so ya can see the differance

or there are 3 different stickys in the vintage sections that showes how each machine works there worth a watch

the rod that is out of place need to be there you can not just allow the payout ball to fall.. the delay in allowing it to drop is verry important

    to Pachitalk

What you have there is a 1975 Nishijin Model B (Fishing Monkeys). I own a Kyoraku with the same center (too bad the rest of my machine isn't in good shape)

I think you got your questions answered but if you have any more or need more assistance feel free to ask. And once again Welcome to PT.

Howdy! Spent much of my youth in Modesto servicing a route of gum vending machines there...

Anyway... I've made two covers (aka kaijiggers) for the ball chutes in Nishijins out of cut down galvanized tie straps bought at Orchard Supply (should have them there still, right?). They're just the right width and thickness and are easily bendable to cover the channel. And being of metal, they spring into place without using actual springs. Just add a bit of teflon covering on the inside to make sure it doesn't (huh) "scrape your balls" too much.
    Woof!
