Default Faulty LCD on Star Wars pachinko

So it looks like my first YJA experience wasn't such a good one after all.

I fit the cell in to the frame and powered up. This is what I saw.

YouTube - Fried Star Wars Pachinko LCD

It looks like the LCD is fried. I took the cell apart to get to the LCD it's a Sharp LQ104V1DG52

I did a google search to see if I could source one but didn't have any luck unless I want to buy 300 of them. I could only find wholesale sellers.

Does anyone know where I could get one from? Anyone got a faulty Sankyo cell but the LCD ok?

I'll get in touch with Kiai but I don't think there is a lot he could do. Buying off ebay has it's risks but at least you can send this back if they don't work.

That is bizarre. Did you check all the connections - to the point of taking the lcd out of it's protective plastic case and checking the ribbon/membrane cable?

are you sure it doesn't just need a longer warmup time, the star wars seem to be like that,

also how big is your transformer, star wars seems to want a stronger one.

I did I stripped it down and re-connected all the cables going to it. That's how I found out the model number it was printed on the back of the panel.

I'll try what Luckydog said and leave it powered up for a while. It can't do any harm.

Everything else works. You hear the sound just no picture.

I've left it powered up for 30mins, still no good.

The T\transformer is rated a 5A but I can't see that being the problem as I've had no problems with other cells and the LCD does light up but then goes dark again.

Looks more like a signal issue. Do you have any other games with this same LCD? You could switch them out and see if the lcd is the problem

    I just noticed you don't, 007 uses a Sharp LQ150X1LGN7

I don't think that looks like the warm up issues usually seen on a Star Wars...

But is it possible it's been badly stored prior to shipping out to you, maybe damp or something that has affected the LCD or associated parts

I know you're supposed to let electrical items acclimatise / warm up to room temperature for a while before using, although I never have the patience for that...

Whatever the problem is, I hope it's something easily remedied,

    Good luck

I had a bad LCD on my Julie which the seller blamed on "ghosts" encountered during shipping. The incredible Kiai was able to source a replacement which did the trick.

However my Julie was virtually new at the time and the Star Wars now has a few years under it's belt. It may be cheaper to look for another cell and scavenge it's LCD.

    Good luck with yours.

Julie, Star Wars, Eva 1 &2 and a few others with that size lcd use the same model so It should not be too hard to find a replacement for it

He's checking with Hiro about an LCD since the company he works/worked for originally recycled pachis for their LCDs in Japan.

    Otherwise I have some.

I've found a source of brand new ones in China. Still waiting on a price though. The more you buy the cheaper they are. Anyone want a spare?

Also found another lead they have one for $100. This Star Wars is not turning out to be the bargain I was hoping for

Still not heard from Kiai, he's usually quick off the mark in replying to my emails. Not this time.

Anyway I'm going to test out Elvis tonight. Hopefully I'll have better luck with him.

The Saga Continues - The replacement LCD arrived today from ebay so I installed it but was greeted with an all white screen. I disconnected the green socket that supplies the screen then re-connected it and this time I got the same effect as before.

This pretty much rules out that the LCD is at fault. The seller does have a No Hassle Return Policy! so hopefully I'll be able to send it back.

I refit the old one and now the screen changes from white to black to white to black and so on at regular intervals.

I'm now thinking it must be a problem with the main board.

All in all it's quite upsetting. This experience has defiantly put me off buying from YJA again but then I guess even if you buy from ebay here in the US you can still have problems.
