Default How do you feel about bring a machine back from the dead???

I just bought a power flush in pretty bad shape. Rusty , water damage , missing diode/fuse box . But I didn't want to see it go to scrap. Question is , are machines only cool if they look show room new or do you think its ok to clean , fix and paint them to make them look half way decent and to work again.

Welcome to Pachitalk!Saving any machine is always good! Saving an icon like a Power Flash is almost required! I'm still looking for a Power Flash to save myself! Please post pics so we can see what you are working with. Vintage machines are kind of simple ...but can be intimidating to tear into...but a Power Flash has the added level of complexity of the electronic circuits. Did you say that the diodes were missing? Just the diodes from the circuit board...or the entire circuit board itself? This could prove to be a stumbling block! There are, however, many Power Flash owners/restorers here who can help you fix it! Pristine? Not necessary. Just making it function as it should is good enough...at first. After that...you will want to improve the cosmetics to whatever level you are comfortable with. It can't be helped. And, be warned...1 is not enough! They will multiply! DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU!

    I think that's great advice

If you are going to keep it and enjoy owning and playing it, then do whatever work you feel comfortable and able with doing.

after watching and reading aobut some of the restorations that have been done on this site I would say No vintage Pachinko is unfixable..

the missing parts could be a problem but so long as your not a stickler for original parts its fixable..

My local Radioshack is now out of biz.. But the last ttime i was in it they were selling a single unit Diode that would work in a pinch.. it was about 1 inch square

good luck to ya and please post a few pics..

any help we can offer is always free and usualy the best

I think all pachis should be saved. As far as how far you want to take the restoration, I think it is a matter of the finished product that will make you happy. Personally, I would work on getting the machine fully fuctional so that you can start enjoying it. Then afterwards start doing the detailed cleaning and restoration a litlle bit at a time.

I say go with your capability on restoration,as don't do something you can't handle and destroy the the machine trying to make it perfect. Be proud of what you can do and enjoy it.

Welcome to PachiTalk! Thanks for taking the time to join the forum and post your question!!

I agree with all of the comments you have received so far... every vintage machine regardless of condition has potential. Many members have taken "trashed" machines and given them a new life. As mentioned above, they may not look original when complete, but they are working and being enjoyed once again. Just to give you an extreme example, take a look at this thread where one of our members rebuilt a Power Flash machine that was in very bad shape:

    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/vint...ken-pachi.html

(Jump to pics of final product: http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/show...l=1#post354811 )

Again, that is an extreme example, but it shows you that there is a lot of people who can help you and provide support with whatever you decide to do with your Power Flash machine. They are fun to play when they work, regardless of what they look like in the end.

Again, welcome to the site!! Please visit us daily and post often!

    to Pachitalk.

Which part of CA are you in first off?

Your power flash don't sound too far off from mine. Mine has a very faded cell, rusty chrome, and is extremely dirty, but it works.

Please post some pictures and if there is anything we could do to help let us know.

no correct answer here, it's whatever makes you happy. i like the patina on some machines but there's nothing like the satisfaction of a true ground up restoration (not just a cleanup) and having the machine back to it's original appearance. be it a pachinko, pinball, coke machine, etc.
here's one of a few machines i've done. the before picture actually makes the machine look not too bad but in person it was beat up to say the least and was very likely going to the dump if it didn't sell. in fact i was the only one who bid on it.
as mopar said, there's nothing that can't be fixed. plastic parts can have exact duplicates cast provided there's an original, metal parts can be machined, and electronics can be analyzed and brought back to spec.

Most of the Nishijin parts are interchangeable, so you can probably find a replacement frame, upper ball tray and panel. The cell/background can be replaced as well. Cosmetically, I don't think the machine is junk. What is the condition like mechanically?

If you want I'll take it off your hands.

Do you know how to open the back to take a pic of the solenoids? That is the key part is to see if those are fried or not.

Is it Power Flash or Power Flush? Flush makes sense because of the playing cards; but it looks more like an "a" then a "u"...
