Default First model A purchase ideas needed

Thanks to inspiration from Wayne-Ooo I purchased my first model A today. I got it from a local collector that was patient with all of my noob questions. I enjoy refurbishing EM pinball machines and since I’m out of room I thought I’d give one of these a try. I plan to do a complete tear down and retheme the playfield. I haven’t decided what the theme will be so please chime in with suggestion. I’m thinking a cartoon or movie theme. Any suggestions? Here are a couple of pictures as received.

Default First model A purchase ideas needed

I like to keep the theme Japanese; so I’m going to suggest maybe a Mario Bros, or Zelda theme? That Mario movie is coming soon and so is Zelda supposedly?

A Lupin the Third vintage would be cool, sure there’s tons of Lupin moderns but no vintages with a flipper?

Or a Homer Simpson AKA Mr. Sparkle would be classic!

The machine looks like a perfect candidate for just about any theme you come up with. It's what I call a "no name" machine.

I usually like theming a machine with an American theme, that most everyone is familiar with.
What if...the HOKEY POKEY, is what it's all about?

I love that center feature! And that thing looks cleeeeean as a whistle! I have one I plan to re-theme as well! I’m going Pokémon since I have collectibles and cards everywhere around my machines. Also going to try a Dragonball Z one in the future but I have to find the perfect machine for it. What are you into? Any games you play or anything? Give us a little more info! You could find a way to do Indiana Jones (the rolling rocks and pitfall traps would be a cool thing to incorporate). Really liking the Mario idea from Lotsoballs. Give us a couple of your likes and hobbies and I feel like we’ll have a mile long list for you within a week. There’s some extremely talented and creative people here to help you out!

Current hobbies are driving my Cobra replica, old EM pinball machines and now pachinko. I grew up with cartoons and shows from the 60s and 70s. Cartoons from that era are the best. I’m also interested on space exploration and airplanes. Pretty much anything that was current in those two decades.

You could do a super snake logo in the background, repaint the spinners so they look like rims and tires, and find a way to either 3D print or get something that clips on to replace/dress up the parts of the tulip that open to make them look like little V8 engines.. I’m drawing a blank on what to do with the center piece but I’m sure we can come up with something!

Glowing snake eyes. I don't mind a fake snake as long as it keeps the Ford motor

Colors look a little faded, but looks like it would cleanup well. Just depends how hardcore of a makeover/ restore you're going to do.

The OP said he wants a complete re-theme! Flower power has got to go! It’s not a custom if you just clean it up…

I had the same badly faded, boring, flower power background on one, don’t miss it one bit! I guess I’m just a “hardcore” restorer!

I hope no one is offended that this will be a modified machine and not restored to original. My interest in this project is to do something that I can call my own. I have always enjoyed the process more than the finished product. My Cobra kept me occupied for four years. Now it sits in the garage and might see 200 miles a year. All four of my EM pinball machines kept me busy for one to two years while being restored. I play them several times a week, but honestly I enjoyed the project more than playing them. I suspect this model A will be the same. I’m excited to start the learning process and doing the best I can. Keep the ideas coming.

This is a picture of the last playfield I repainted. It is from 1959. It’s not a faithful restoration since I had to guess on the colors and fudged on fonts for the letters. A purist will say I ruined it. They’re right, but I had fun.
