Default Nishijin Model A Reset Scale Question

The reset scale on my Nishijin model A doesn't always payout all the balls and they stay in the scale and cause it to not payout the next time. If I give the machine a little shake I hear a few ding dings and it drops a couple balls and goes ahead with the next payout. This is a very new problem that I didn't experience when I first got the machine. Any idea what could be happening? Did I break it?

Also the machine seems to dump half the payout into the top tray and half into the bottom.. that normal?

To answer your second question, Yes and No. On the model A, the payout consists of 14 balls that are in the payout tray and the "winning ball" that gets redirected from the jackpot mechanism back to the lower tray. Under normal operations, you should see 14 balls come out the top and one come out the bottom, thus giving you a payout of 15 (14+1).

During a jackpot, look at the pivot tray underneath the payout tray, the balls go are dumped from the jackpot tray into the pivot tray, causing it to tilt down. They then go around the inside of the pivot tray towards the front of the machine. Sometimes they end up in the overflow hole near the exit. if more than one ball is appears in the bottom tray, then some of the 14 balls have found their way down the overflow hole.

If this is occurring AND the upper tray is not completely full, it is indicitive that the pivot tray is dirty. If there is mung in the pivot tray, all the balls will not exit and will not allow the tray to reset, which releases the lock on the payout seesaw allowing the next payout cycle to begin. Also if there is mung in this tray, the balls tend to change their path and more go into the overflow hole, giving you the partial payout in the top and bottom ball trays.

This payout tray may or may not have a plastic or metal cover over it. Remove the cover and thoroughly clean the inside of the pivot tray. When it is fully clean, all the balls (but one) should exit into the top tray and one ball will exit into the bottom tray.

If the upper tray fills with balls, then all your balls will go into the overflow hole and appear in the bottom tray. This too is normal.

I agree, it sounds like all it needs is a good "de-munging"

If you don't like 'mung', there's always 'schmutz'
