Thumbs up Just picked up a Daiichi Vangaurd

    Hello all,
Just picked this up the other day. Got it from somebody that had it and knew nothing about it. It's fairly complete far as I can tell. It was jammed up with balls behind the tulips. Not sure how it got jammed so bad. The top tray switch is missing. I have one I can make work I think. The biggest problem is that the spring is missing off the flipper. Can anybody tell me approximately what the spring should be? Maybe you have a pic or specs (length)? I have an Idea, but somebody could show me a pic of one, that would be great.

Anyway, it's in fair condition. The worst of it is the glass. It has no glass, but there was a broken plexiglass in it. So, I need a new tempered glass and a plexiglass and I'll be good to go.

How many balls do these need to be playable?

One more question. I didn't get a key. What kind of key do these take?

    Thank you,
    David

no key is usualy needed and most dont have keys

i have a spring i can hook ya up with... ill send u a private message

a nice vintage will need at least 200 balls to work but to be honest 500 plus is a great place to start... the upper tray will hold nearly 1000

    can u post a pic???

I was going to ask this in a later post, because I'd like to replace the spring on my next vintage refurb - has anyone found a good replacement for the spring on the shooter lever? The big box stores don't carry anything that matches up length-wise. I haven't really tried to find one except when I was buying other things for weekend projects, so HD and Lowes are the only places I've looked.

Plain sheet glass is fine. Or, plexi if you prefer.
Do you know how many directions 500 steel balls can go on a tile floor...
    Yellow tulips are evil.

I found some replacement springs at ACE hardware. Ask for 6" Extension Springs that are 5/16" diameter and made with .041 gauge wire. You can probably find them online if there isn't an ACE store near you.

Lowes has a similar extension spring, although the length is 4 1/2" and they are a wider diameter, but the tension is nearly the same to an old, heavily used Pachinko spring. Either one should work.

    Good luck!

I guess my next question would be where does the spring hook up? I see what looks like a nail with a hook bent into it attached to the lever, and a nail that looks like an attach point, but that would make the spring only about an inch long. Anybody have a picture of theirs? I guess that's what I'm really after. Thanks guys!

Are we talking about the spring that provides tension to the shooter or the spring that comes in contact with the balls?

In the picture here, the spring is attached to the shooter arm itself on one side (circled), then runs behind some of the other parts and is connected to a flat metal tab that has holes in it that allow you to adjust the tension (by the arrow). The arrow points to the other side of the spring, connected to the metal tab, which is hidden behind the plastic.

Not a problem Mopar - I have the spring, the one I want to replace is just in bad shape and I haven't tried to clean it up yet, I'm actually thinking I want to replace with a new one anyway.

The strap on my machines are metal, not plastic, I see new pieces every time someone posts.

    Thanks,

    Mike

well, I found a spring at Lowes that will work just fine. Now the problem is this... when you push the lever down, it doesn't open the gate for the ball to ender. Is there a linkage or something missing down at the bottom, or maybe another spring?

thanks for the pics, but I can't tell what's going on. When you push down on the shooter, is it supposed to tilt the ramp under the tub on top and let a ball or two go? I am thinking something is missing parts wise on my mechanism, I just can't picture how it works though.
