Default If you don't know the name, make it up!

I think it was pachi_sloter that first coined the term here of "stupid dealer name".

But TA has a new entry to the beloved contest...

I nominate this one... any seconds?

I'm not sure, but since my name is Bob, I think I take offense to this entire thread!

The machine is CR Daiku no Gen-san. Daiku means carpenter. So it's Gen the Carpenter not Bob The Builder.

Gen the Carpenter to Bob the Builder...I guess chaulk that up to creative translation by the seller. :-)

I emailed Curtis of TA about one machine he had using the Japanese name of it. He replied with ??? he said he only knew them by their marketing name. Maybe I'm being picky here but I think a major vendor ought to at least have a clue what they're selling.. :-?

Even something written in plain English, like "Red Lions" gets spun into "Black Hawk Down".
"Apollo 1" turns into "Apollo 13" (with a full-blown description of the NASA mission). Even SlotUSA followed them with that name.
And if "Gladiator", a nine reel machine, doesn't sell by the name... just call it "The Most Expensive Ever Made", and see what happens.

Looks to me, IMHO, like more interest in profit than product.

That is business, in the USA. There are coin dealers who don't know nothing, but it is slabbed at MS64 and the book said it is this price.

    And that the price.

Nothing about eye appeal, or patina

I won an auction for "SUPER-MAX PACHISLO SKILLSLOT MACHINE-SUPER FIREWORKS!" which, translated to the name we all know (and nowhere is listed in the description) is "Hanabi Hyakkei".

You have to admit that for those not in the know, a machine called Bob the Builder might sell better than one called CR Daiku no Gen-san.

I am a little disappointed that a dealer would not know the real name if asked, however. IMHO. ~spooner
