Default Triple check me: small staple removal

So I always measure many times before I cut, including something that alarms me during a cleaning.

Can these staples be removed safely? They also hold up my top bin and other plastics.

Also, when I reassemble, can I just use tiny screws instead?

Yes they can be removed. They are a cheap assembly method used on a machine that was expected to be short lived.
As you see, the plastic has holes for screws to be used...but staples are cheaper and faster.

Ace Hardware is a good source for small screws to use as replacements. Bigger box stores don't carry anything small enough.
Of course if you try hard you can find fasteners on the internet for a decent price in bulk.

I mark the holes with an awl and hammer, before removing the staples. Makes getting the pieces repositioned easier during reassembly, plus you have a hole to start your screw.

I like to outline around the pieces I remove very lightly with a pencil, it helps me remember how things fit (along with lots of pictures). I mark the holes and use a small drill bit to make a starter hole for the screws when I put it back together.
