Post Hoard? Or Re-up? How do you evolve your collection?

So looking at all the large, expansive collections people have on here, I have seen so many rooms full of pachinko games.

It leads me to wonder: with the technology getting increasingly better in these all the time,

do you guys sell your older games to get more modern units?

When do you decide to swap out your older models?

I realize some people collect "classic" pachinko...but for you modern players...this one is really geared at you!
I would think at some point you need to purge due to lack of space!

But then again I see some of you have lost your dining rooms to this hobby!

Just curious if the majority of you "hoard" or "re-up"...

When I'm bored, check craiglist to see if anything good, I've got lucky 3 times there, purchased 4 machines through Frank at clover collectables (his other 2 company's), my first 2 machines came on Ebay local, 1 from blue pachinko (forgot her name) and 1 from trading post on this website, I'm in seattle, so not many members close to me, but i've been collecting over the years, and yes space is a problem for me, 2 of my machines are standing room only, other 9 you can sit and play, I have all my machine on workbenches so you can stand or sit, my spare bedroom is a pachinko room, set up for 12 machines (1 more open spot, it will be standing only)

Great Collection for both of you! I admire the passion and seemingly never ending funds that you guys have to pour into your hobby. Really impressive.

What a slab of wood that tabletop is! Reminds me of an 8' section of bowling alley I sadly left in my last house that my pool table sat on.

Thanks, but I'm not rich, I work full time, plus overtime, pay a mortgage on a house, so funds can be tight some months

Yep and waiting for time, money, and parts all at the same time is the biggest challenge. The funds only seem endless at times because all of the sudden a bunch of things happened in the same week.

I don't think that I'm a hoarder but then again I haven't gotten rid of anything Pachi yet other than some extra trays and flags. Besides my cat doesn't need a dining room.

Hmm, time to do some inventory and sell some more stuff!

I have four public photo albums here on PachiTalk at this link.

The parts for sale group is being worked on. I need to figure out some fair prices yet and there is more to come.

I tend to hoard a little, but do occasionally sell a machine or two. I am generally not really concerned with having the latest or most flashy gizmo laden machines. I tend to look at theme and how much I enjoy playing the game. I really enjoyed playing Momo-kun Sword 3 while in Japan last fall so that is at the top of my list for import, but if I find an Eva 8 or something else that catches my eye locally for the right price I'll hold off on importing.

Classic/vintage pachinkos myself...therefore...I hoard! I think I have like...25 or 26 pachinkos. One modern pachinko...considered selling, just don't do it for me. Never tried or got around to it. One early modern (square frame around glass, shooter knob, electrical payout moter for jackpot, no dongle...otherwise looks like vintage), got it cheap, locally...with about 1500 balls. Liked it more than I expected, probably a keeper...even though I got it so cheap, I could actually turn a profit! And one areipachi. Kind of a cross between a modern pachinko, and an arrangeball! An odd duck (actually penguin!) http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/show...hlight=penguin
Kind of rare (hate to use that abused term), so it is a keeper!
Don't know what to do with all these machines, I can only build out so much wall space to flush mount them into my living room (due to windows and door), which will also have a pool table and a couple of mechanical slots and 1 or 2 pachislos...no wife to say NO!
I only buy bargains...preferrably $125 or less including shipping...needless to say, I havent bought anything in awhile...since everyone thinks their UNRESTORED pachinko is worth $400! Even with no need for more...I still keep an eye out for anything particularly old...or particularly unusual. If I look at the back, and say "I ain't ever seen that before!" then I am willing to violate my "bargain" rule. Of course this is a double edged sword! Having a machine that even makes collectors say "WOW" means anything missing, or broken is a problem!!! NO PARTS MACHINES to fix it! I have a machine that is missing stuff...I don't even know what it looks like, or what was "here", and has evidence of "something" there...can't even figure out what "these pressure plates were for!!!" It payed out...but seesaw needed to be reset by hand each time. I was able to make it work reliably by modifying it. Did not like it not being correct...but it is playable...and was a bargain.
OK!!! Now I am off on a tangent! Probably not useful advise, as far as this thread is concerned...but for new vintage collectors, start with common vintage machines (especially Nishijin model B's), that way, if something breaks (or arrives broken), it can be fixed by a parts machine! I have the previous "modified" machine, and another that I am still trying to feed balls...I think it is a prototype, to get investers to "buy in"...but without documentation, WHO KNOWS! BUT...those are the kind of machines that I LIKE...when they are complete, and not broken.
"Not working"...but not broken, and not missing parts are the BEST machines!!! Almost all vintage machines sold as "not working" get a pass by most buyers. Most are only "jammed" and have 200 balls backed up and need to be cleared out! Buyer beware!!! You have to see the back and know what to look for!
OOPS! I got way off track!!! I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread! Sorry!

If you click on a members avatar...it takes you to an information page about that member. There is a place for "albums" that the member can upload pics. Mine are not updated...but have most of my machines.
Peteybob...I may be interested in some parlor trays you have there!...when I get a job!

Seeing Quester and Petey's collections are making me antsy again, and I've JUST finally started calming down after seeing DrunkClam's space back in March hhh.*
I'm excited/terrified for the day I finally get to that level (terrified only when thinking about money and space lol)

But to answer the OP question, I'm personally not too concerned with having the newest, greatest guy, just after certain themes based on my favourite anime/game series and such. It is pretty great when a series I love has a pretty awesome machine though--the 2015 Persona 4 pachinko has blown my socks off and I can't seem to get them back on
