Default My First Pachinko - Model A

I had never known or heard of Pachinko until this Christmas, may father-in-law showed me his game and I was hooked.

After a few Google searches I found PachiTalk.

Thanks to Moparformances video where I found out his was a Model-A.

I decided to get one myself and it arrived last Friday. I spent all day yesterday and half of today cleaning it, when the brass cleaner fumes got to me I stopped to take a few pictures. I am sort of proud of how clean I got that top metal shute to polish up…I did not expect it to turn out that shinny.

I think this is a 1971 Kyoto Model A. It has a few small issues:

-Some water damage on the playing field
-Missing the yellow wire thumb screw
-The rail leading to the Jackpot had come loose so I had to add screws in place of the staples to refasten it.

I assume the transformer was added, it is a 10V and works as do the lights (I had to get replacement bulbs from Radio Shack as the bulb were burned out).

I think I will be doing the light modification I saw posted by SteveFury for the Jackpot area and perhaps also on the upper green area above the center.

I would have been lost without this great site, thanks for all the info you guys have shared on PachiTalk!

It is good to hear you were able to answer most of your own questions.

Your machine is a 1971 Nishijin Model A - Aoi Umi (Tulip King Nishijin) I recently restored one of the same exact machines. (Below is pictures of the one I did) Also just a note; Aoi Umi means Blue Sea, which is why the plastics on the front are navy blue. Also the machine was built in the Kyoto plant instead of the Tokyo plant. Not much special there, just means you have black back plastics instead of green or brown.

    28.jpg35.jpg

You don't need the yellow thumb screw as that post isn't used. That post just went back to the parlor to tell them when the machine was out of balls.
It is very typical to have water staining on the backgrounds. As they were just paper.
Good call on adding screws. I always replace staples with screws if I can.

If you have any further questions feel free to ask. And once again Welcome to PT.

Welcome! Nice model A! You could also fix up the playfield a bit but cleaning the leftover sticker paper on the tulips and either put new colored stickers, painting the insets, or leaving just the clean chrome look(I have done all three, but depends on the matching cell and the look you want it to have).

Welcome to pachitalk! Nice looking Model A! Seems hard to find them with all the covers still intact! I think I have only 1 Model A with this cover. The clear cover is almost never there. Model A machines are my favorite to watch the mechanics work! SteveFury made this animation! Nishijin Technical Animation And of course Mopars video Model A Video These are really neat machines! Looks like you got a pretty nice one!

Thanks for the tip. I found some tulip decals on-line.
    I will order them.

Cool! It does look to be pretty complete from what I can tell.
I'm still a bit undecided on drilling into the white jackpot cover for the SteveFury lighting modification...maybe I'll try a less invasive method to start with.

It isn't that hard to do that. I do it to every model A I restore now. What I do s take off the cover on the under side (using a pencil) mark where center is. Then I measure the size of the grommet to install. Then I take a step drill bit and drill a hole to the size of the grommet. (note when measuring the grommet make sure you measure the inside the groove not the whole outside.) Also note when drilling the hole it is easy to put the cover backed against an old piece of wood and have another person help hold it for you. Right now I'm finding is the hardest thing to find is the mini screw bases to put into the whole. They were abundant at one time but they are getting harder to find.
