Default Stupid question of the week

OK...the hopper has an overflow container and there are two metal "probes" that must sense when the overflow container is full of tokens. I assume this was to alert an attendant . I tried filling up overflow with tokens and thought I'd get an error code but...nada...I was still able to play. Sooooo...stupid question of the week...what is the function of the overflow/metal probes and how do they work?

On all of my arrange balls the lower switch in the coin tube lights a warning light telling both the customer and attendant that the machine is low. Sometimes in addition a coil is also activated that places a small metal arm in the path of an incoming token to divert it back out to the front.A couple of my Satomis also have a microswitch near the top of the coin tube. When tokens are at that point it trips and diverts tokens into the overflow jug.

The overflow system is for parlors that are either too small or don't want to invest in a token handling system (which I'm surprised I haven't seen on YJA yet ).
The game should error out, but perhaps it's a silent thing that only the parlor knows about. Don't want to give the players a reason to stop playing!

On one of my machines it had the probes but didn't do anything until the tokens touched each probe and completed the curcuit and sounded the error noise.. I just unplugged the probe and removed it .
