Default chewy's back, after a long month away

    hi guys!

I have been away from pachitalk for a month and a half, so thought I'd let you know where I have been.

In april, taxes got paid and we had no money left... started the ramen diet and had to stop looking at craig's list.

in May, I did a 5 camera video of my brother-in-law's catholic wedding. it was an agonizing process, editing the 5 angles together for a ceremony of that length. I used to enjoy this as a fun wedding present for friends or relatives, but this job took the fun out of it, so no more wedding videos for me.

same weekend as the wedding was my father's 80th bday party in sacramento. we had a big chinese banquet with lion dancers.

after that, lots of working in my now very busy ER in salinas. seems that more and more people are coming in overnight these days. my 10 hour shifts are non-stop, with hardly even any time to pee...

my sparrow, the little green electric vehicle, started stalling, or not starting on me, a symptom that was supposed to have been fixed by the last owner... almost stranded me at work 3 times. I have pulled out the circuit boards, cleaned contacts, rewired connectors, and even added emergency ground wires to contactors, in case I get stuck somewhere.

it seems that Corbin was not so good at engineering the electrical circuits and connectors on these EVs, and this was probably part of why they went bankrupt after building only 300 plus vehicles.

I also added LED running lights, a dash voltage indicator for each of the 13 batteries, a thermometer on the controller that tends to overheat, flushed the brake lines, rewired the brake line pressure switches, and learned to decipher several wiring diagrams. I have yet to add cooling fans and possibly an additional brake line holder, since the car rolls away without a wheel chock...

the car creates quite a stir everywhere I go. people even follow me to see it closer. I worry that someone will crash into me, for all the people taking pictures with their cell phones, while they drive. random people honk at me and scare me regularly.

in the past 13 days, it has been an absolute whirlwind... through a sparrow friend that I met online to whom I mentioned that I was exhausted from ER work and asked if he knew anyone in biotech (I have a bioengineering degree, too), I made contact with the VP of a very big investigative engineering firm.

12 days ago I emailed my resume out at 3:30 PM and the next morning I got a call. next day I interviewed in Menlo Park, then they sent me to Phoenix 3 days later (where myth busters filmed 2 cars crashing at 50 mph vs 1 car against a wall at 100 mph), and Philly last Friday to meet about 15 different people.

yesterday, they offered me a job in injury biomechanics, where I will analyze car crashes and accidents for injury mechanism and possible causes. being a doctor-doctor will come in handy b/c I have lots of trauma experience to draw upon.

the following link is to their first big case involving a stunt woman who suffered a serious neck injury doubling for farrah fawcett in cannon ball run.

so, I am starting a new career in August, while still working ER 1/2 time, and all b/c of one of my hobbies!

you meet the nicest folks sometimes though your hobbies

I will be back at pachitalk, mostly perusing the vintage stuff, but still hunting for an arepachi. I have chips to build one, just need time to program them now...

missed you guys, and I appreciate the PMs from people who wondered where I'd gone. feels like a real family around here
