Cut the hole for the light and tried a few angles, some wood putty for a clean finish and it's on to paint. The corners are much cleaner after a few rounds of sanding - used some grey high-build autobody primer to cover the smaller gaps before the main primer coat.

I have attached Rev. A of the plans - not to scale. A few comments...

Pink Spots are where dowels were inserted on both sides for support.

Orange Circle and square show location of the hole for the light.

Red Square is a 3/4"x1.5"x20.5" pine spacer that is inserted on top of the Pachi after it has been placed into the cabinet and can be removed (I will probably add some sort of handle on the backside) so that the pachi can be easily swapped out (gives you some wiggle room basically).

Green just shows how the boards were arranged from the side.

Cut 4 of F use 2 each side to support both the shelf and the front plywood.

Well, the weather was just horrible today so I was unable to get the first coat of color down. I did bring it inside and did a second test fit to make sure none of the glue, putty or paint was an issue (side to side I was within a 1/16th so it's a nice fit).

Popped the light in to see how it looked with the lights down and was pretty happy. I think the latter half of the week will be in the 60's up here so I think this one should be done by the weekend.

nice clean design. I really like the built in light, with room for a battle counter... or a ball hopper if they aren't cyclic.

did you convert your machines to cyclic, or did they come that way?

also, your link in your signature doesn't work, says restricted access?

I converted them...for me it was just personal preference, I can see all sides of the coin on keeping it one way or another. In my case I have several young nephews who like to play them but who are too short to reach above them, not to mention dropping them all over, etc...so I went the path of losing the fun of the big payout for the ease of nonstop play and being the most vertically challenged friendly.

It's interesting how in Japan, with limited space, they often convert to cyclic or even gut the machines and just display the LCD with buttons to activate the "reels"

I have a starwars vader to unpack that just came in from japan. it is supposed to be cyclic, so I will perhaps put a daverob dongle on it and use gaku's pachicounter finally (bought it over a year ago and never got it installed, since I wanted to use it on several machines and have a plug to extra sensors that I left on each machine, so extra wires and connectors that I never attached)

cyclic cuts down on the volume of balls you have to buy and make hoppers for, too, so I could see that as an advantage.

    Talking Re: First Cabinet Design

So here is the finished product
I was kicking around an idea this week on how to keep the shelf from getting scuffed up while swapping cabinets in and found a pretty good solution. I had some leftover tool drawer liner in the garage and used some 3M 90 adhesive (this stuff is really good). Cut a section and taped off the edges of the cabinet then used some cardboard to keep the spray off the side boards. The result is a better surface for the machine to sit on and no need to fear it pulling up or nicking the paint when swapping them in and out.

Thanks for all the kind words...1 down 2 to go!!

Just an Idea but it might be cool to mount a digital picture frame that cycles images of Evangelion on your cabinet like shown in this fake photo.

Yep, that is a great idea ...I may need to keep an eye on the clearance racks for a small one...I may also take Slothappy up on his backlit plexi idea...or perhaps a battle counter...or both.

The nice thing about a digi-frame is I could swap out imagery when I swap in a new game.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I did get in touch with Kiai and along with some other goodies I managed to snag this counter for 2500¥. I can't wait to get it hooked up...but while I wait it gives me time to build the other 3 cabinets

Something I was wondering over lunch...if I have converted the machine to semi-cyclic, will all the triggers still work for all the counter functions, or does the counter rely on balls to trigger the circuit for certain events?

You should be fine, the triggers are Start pocket hits, Bonus/Fever, and Kakuhen (high probability rounds that trigger a consecutive fever) and all three of these would be unchanged by a cyclic or semi-cyclic conversion.
