General Rambling Happy Thanksgiving Post

Hi all,

To balance the unpleasant thread from this morning, I'd like to wish everyone here at the site a very Happy Thanksgiving, even to those of you outside the US (and a belated Happy Thanksgiving to our neighbors in the Great White North).

I just went for my lunchtime run and already out of state plates are arriving at houses in my neighborhood, which made it feel like the beginning of Thanksgiving and also made me smile. Even if it is a misty rainy day here in central NJ, the envy of Iranian Secret Police interrogators.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday here in the US. For me, the holiday has always been about family, friends, good food, good drink and football. Whats not to like? Commercialism (outside the football) is absent and it forces me to think about how lucky I am to have the family and friends that I have.

I'm looking forward to some quality time with my family, a nice fire in the fireplace and some football.

I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving! (even if it's just a regular workday for you).

I read an article this morning by an American political correspondent in Iraq. He asked a British soldier if there was a holiday like Thanksgiving in Great Britain, the soldier answered "Yes - the 4th of July" - pretty funny.

It sounds like you are going to have a great day! You are right... it is ALL about the blessings we have in our family and friends, and gives us a moment to reflect on those blessings consciously.

For me personally, it is my one day a year to be a Rock Star in the kitchen and have the entire family excited about the food in front of them.

We have a diner, and my kids were raised off a menu, able to pick and choose as they like. Not bad, but then when I cook at home, it seems that there is always at least one person that would have preferred something different. Not tomorrow though...

So, I made Pumpkin Roll yesterday and two Caramel Apple Pies are in the oven to be followed by a Pumpkin Pie and Peaches & Cream Pie.

The diner is open and my husband is doing a buffet... but nothing could tempt me from my own kitchen on Thanksgiving. After all... I only get to be a Rock Star once per year.
