Yeah, he'd found out it was ok to do the remote start part, it's just remembering to unplug the vehicle before he leaves. I've seen more than a few big rigs that have fuel pump nozzles in their off tanks because they forgot to check Of course it only has to happen once and you have a tendency to remember after that.

I would think a bigger issue would be if plugged into the grid, a power surge damaging the inverter.

How about a red light built into the Dash that is connected to the circuit for the external power that lights up when that connection is made? (What's one more hole drilled into the Dash)

Hop in, Red Lights on, "Hey Mister" Unplug that CORD ! ! !

    Simple relay circuit.

why not a relay that is activated when the inverter gets plugged in (AC relay) that interrupts the ignition switch in the car.

I know someone wrote about a relay to disable the 120vac, but it sounds like forgetting to unplug is the issue.

we have to do this in electric vehicles since driving off with the power cord is a drag...

sometimes there is an output from the battery charger to energize the ignition kill relay, but I am guessing that you have an electrical input port that is male that you plug your extension cord into, that then energizes the inverter (just bought one of these plugs from an RV supply place for my EV this week).

so, you could parallel a relay across this 120 VAC and set it to open the starter switch when energized.

before you use a remote starter switch (if it's wired across the same ignition switch), you'd have to go out and unplug the AC, too.
