Can you tell me anything about this machine?

Hello, I have attached pics of this machine that I have had for a while. The kids played it for a while, but now seems to be clogging in the back. I need some more balls of course, but I would like it restored to perfect condition. I am in pittsburgh. Can anyone give me any history on this machine and anywhere I can go to get parts or get it fixed? Thank You.

Welcome aboard! You will find the folks here to be extremely helpful and accomodating.

First, please take additional and clearer pictures of the back of the machine. This will enable us to give you better advice as to what you are up against. It appears that your biggest problem may just be a ball jam...which you can fix without purchasing anything. If you've got some time and a screwdriver, that's usually all you need.

Second, it is my experience that unless key components are either missing or irreparably damaged, there usually is not a issue that will cause your machine to be "inoperable". Ball jams are not a problem; once you learn about the inner workings of the machine, it is surprising how non-scary they are. If you are interested in making the machine perfect, you will likely have to remove the backing and give the various chutes and components a good cleaning.

If you do this, make sure that you take good pictures to ensure that you can put it back together...don't trick yourself into believing that you will remember where every screw is supposed to go.

Also, if you do this, you will be able to clearly see just how the mechanics work. They become much less intimidating during this phase.

Finally, the electronics are an area that I've yet to tackle. Once again, I do not believe that there is anything sinister about this phase, but there are many folks here who have made numerous posts which will give you assistance.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT try to clean the face of the machine with water. It will irreparably stain the cell.

Thank you for the advice. How rude of me not to say hi to everyone, as I am new here. So hi everyone! I am sure that my boyfriend can figure it out, since he is mechanically inclined. Yes, it is jamming in the back, otherwise everything is in perfect working order as far as I can see. I never thought too much about this machine, until I became curious. In looking through this forum I am surprised at the amount of collectors.

Does anyone know what kind, or any history of this machine...now that I am curious. It is one my favorite vintage items.

that machine is made by nishijin, maybe late 70's?. we call it type B, because there is an a, b, c.
you can look at vintage pachinko for descriptions.

this is a common machine to find on ebay and craigslist. not too hard to fix, either. search for nishijin b and you'll find lots of threads on fixing them.

they're not hard to fix, they just take time

In vintage machines, I have found that ball jams are usually the result of a lack of balls in the payout hopper/tray.
No payout balls = jams.
Clear the jam and fill it up with balls. I bet it works then.
You need ~ 250-500 balls in a vintage machine.

I would check the back ball channels just in case anything else got accidentally in amongst the balls whilst the kids were playing, fluff, dirt, loose screws, dead spiders...

Whatever the problem is, these are great mechanical items and mostly easy to fix

I have the exact same center on my machine. My background cell is different. You can check it out on my profile under albums. It has been in my family for over 30 years.
It appears that the upper ball tray is empty as indicated by the flag in the ball shooter window, that's a good place to start. If this is not the problem, and you can describe what led up to the jam, I'm sure one of us can help guide you through the steps to diagnose & fix the problem.
