    Default MAME vs JAMMA

I found this site which is listing a JAMMA board that you can download MAME games onto! Is this new, better, any thoughts?
I was going to build a 48 in 1, but this has got me thinking a little more (big price difference but endless possibilities)!
Check it out and let me know what everyone thinks

mame32 is free, this is almost 400.00 to basically do the same thing.

you still need everything else, a monitor, computer, joysticks etc.

What about the cost of the computer? You would need to spend at least $400 for a basic PC or did you think of another way?

If you decide to go with the 48-1 jamma, I have a board I can let you have for $80. Let me know and I'll put it on the auction.

Really, isn't this a stand alone board that is JAMMA ready? Meaning you don't need a PC to run, only to make ROM updates?

Yes that board takes the place of a jamma board in a jamma machine. If you already have a jamma arcade it would be a direct replacement. If you look at the list of games, very few of the mame games are compatable. Most of the games are Jamma. If you want a Mame arcade it would be better and cheaper to just get an old pc and build an arcade around it. At least you can then run the 2000+ mame games on it. All the mame games and software are on the internet.

thats what i get for not reading the whole description, i basicaly read about hooking it up to a computer with the supplied cable

i still think mame would be better unless you are building a full arcade cabinet for the board.

Ok, I thought something didn't seem right ! I just thought it was a neat little addition when making a 48-IN-1. What are the required PC specs for MAME? Is there a "one stop shop" for the program and ROMS?

Looking at the list of games that this PCB supports they aren't very demanding to emulate. I was running them at full frame rate on MAME back in the days when I only had a 486, so if you're only interested in this era of games pretty much any junk PC will be adequate. Once you've added a $60 J-Pac interface, you're pretty much sorted.

Same argument is true about a lot of the 48-1, 96-1 etc jamma boards, you can almost always set up a mame system out of junk parts for less than the cost of these boards, it's just sometimes the cost of a simple plug and play board is worth it for saving the effort of installing and setting up a mame system.

It's only when you get to wanting to play more recent emulated games that you need to seriously think about spending money on a PC.

The arcade that I have, have 1250 games. Here is the way I want about getting it. The hole thing cost me around $900.00
First I bought a snk neo candy 25, from. If you count from the topits the 11 or 12 one. I had them install a High rez flat screen monotor, 2 new joysticks, and 6 new buttons for each player. Here is the sight. Arcade Games
Then I like the jamma system, so I bought the xxxx-in-1 KE version. Here is the websight. There is the basic one called 1069-in-1. Look at the bottom of the page, you will want to get the, xxxx-in-1 killer edition, and get the upgrade CPU intel 4 2.8 What I realy like about the jamma system is when this websight comes out with a upgrade, all I have to do is switch out the hard drives.Very easy, not like the Mame system. The Mame is just a home pc running a very, very striped down windows system, I belive its hard to add games to it. I just realy like what the people at jammaboards have done. Here is the sight.
Arcade PCBs - JAMMA PCBs - 1069-in-1 Games Family Multigame JAMMA System - JAMMABOARDS.COM - JAMMA Coin-Op Arcade Game Parts - 1069-in-1 Games Family Multigame JAMMA System
I also got a new arcade Marquee from.
    Marquees :
and a for some games, I bought a 3" Happ trackball. I had to install the trackball in a box on the side becouse there was no room in the arcade. My arcade is 25" wide with a 24" monotor. These japan sit down type of arcades do come in bigger size. I want with this one becouse it fits real nice when moving it from room to room. Through the door fram.
His a sight for the people that like to tinker, ext. to the xxxx-in-1 jamma board. XXXX In 1 Modification Site

Here is the best sight that I have found for info about the diferent arcade cabenits. hardMVS: MVS Cabinet Directory
The one at the top of this page is the one I have. This page also has all of the japan sitdown type hardMVS: Japanes Cabs
If you go with the stand up type you will nead to get a bar stool to sitting down on. I got two of these chairs, there are nice becouse you can make them swivel. IKEA | Work chairs | Basic chairs | SNILLE | Swivel chair

Thanks for everyone's input! Now you've got me thinking...I already have a Neo-Geo arcade game and about 12 games. Would I be better to convert this to the neo 1069 in 1(No classics like Pac-Man,DK,etc)? Use this cabinet for a MAME or a JAMMA program?
