Shelf life on most domestic beers is 90-110 days from production. Imports, for some reason, 6 months to a year!!!
Always keep your "backup" beer in a cool dry place away from light.

One reason is that American beer is almost not beer at all with the addition of other grains used in production. Another reason may be the type and amount of hopps used. The more hopps the higher the acid level and the longer the beer will stay fresh.
