Default Calling all high tech travelers.....

Wife will be taking a trip this summer and I don't want her calling me constantly saying "Honey I'm lost." So what would be the best gps navigator that speaks to you? Not looking for all the bells and whistles, just something that you put in where you want to go and it tells you when and where to turn and comes with a power cord..... Thanks.....

All the latest units are pretty good. Garmin has several that are very good. I use a Magellen in our cars. Picked it up on a Woot and I'm very happy with it. Sure can be a nag, though: "Please make a legal U-turn at the next possible opportunity."

I use the Garmin Street Pilot 2620. Has 20 GB hard drive that includes all of North America preinstalled. It has been near flawless for over two years. It has advanced search options for help finding anything you might need. You might say "I'd be lost without it"!

Seen the 2720 refurbs with a 1yr. warranty on ebay, they are going for dirt cheap!!! didn't know if that would be a good one or not since not many are bidding on that model, seller has a 99.8 rating on over 4,000 transactions...

    Yeah!

    I absolutely hate ours,
She gets confused and often says:

Turn right, turn right and then turn right again??

and many a time she demands we stay to the left when that means a Layby and not part of the highway??

I have a 2720 refurb and love it. It has some features that the 2620 doesn't have. Remember the refurbs carry the same factory warranty as a new one and most of the time you can't tell them from a new one. Go to Garmin.com and read about them and then decide!

I've been using the Garmin iQue M3 Pocket PC since around August.

Very pleased with that... even though they've discontinued it.
You don't need the whole USA and Canada on the unit unless you're going to travel the whole area! Just connect it to a PC and select the areas that you want for the trip, and transfer it. It saves memory for other things on the Pocket PC.

The built in antenna works fine in most situations, but I got an external antenna, and had NO problem getting through Manhattan with that!

It's also small enough and accurate enough to use if you ever decide to get into geocaching with your kids or family.

It uses SD memory cards, too... which I have plenty of for my cameras... and it's also compatible with SDIO cards. So... of course, I had to get a WiFi card for it.
Now when I'm near a 'hotspot'... I just pull the maps and pop in the wifi, and check my email or surf.

    Bottom line... I'd buy another.

Better a girlfriend, you know GPS was invented by a man, "I know where we're goin', we don't need no stinkin' directions!"

Yeah, I had to change mine from female to male, kept going on and on " Please turn here, I have to pee; watch out for that truck; your driving too fast; does this computer case make me look fat?"

like 'Turn around when able to and play Pachinko'
and 'Roundabout Ahead - imagine it's a Start Pocket'

Right side of the road? They don't even drive on the right (left) side of the car!

    We have this one:
    http://www.gpscity.com/item-garmin-g...-gps/76csx.htm
(I have bought several things from GPSCity and recommend them)

This Garman is great for the car, but also waterproof and easy to carry while hiking, boating, camping. We bought a suction cup windshield mount for the car (also at GPSCity).

It's not too fancy... it doesn't talk. Just beeps when a turn is coming up. It comes with a preloaded base map that covers most interstates and state roads. I also recommend buying Garmin City Select software. It enables you to navigate right to your front door - includes all secondary roads, sub-division roads, EVERYTHING.

Great gadget. Shoot it even comes with GAMES you can play in your back yard!

We have the gramin IQue M5 nice and portable. So you can fly and use it in a rental car as well. Had a problem with the orginal one at the 11 month 2 week mark, sent it to Garmin and they sent me a brand new one.

You can check GPScity.com, when I was getting mine they had the best prices

I would recommend the external antenna as it seems to provide better reception, I tried it with the buit-in antenna and we would loose signals every once in a while so for the extra $70.00 it was well worth it.
