    Default Cool Table Saw

For those of us who have built cabinets for our machines or for anyone who has ever used a table saw, You know how potentially dangerous they can be. The video in the following link is very cool. Nobody loses a finger or anything.

That is like a fancy pachinko ground loop.
That guy must play pachinko and got the idea from it.

My friend in the packingroom at work lost his finger a few years back. Too bad this feature was not available.

The table saw is the only tool I really dont like to use. Just too many variable that can cause an injury. When I was building my last cabinet I had one of the pieces kick back and shoot past me and slam into the garage door from 20 ft away.

Is there another thread like this? very familiar. A table saw is not nearly as dangerous as the radial arm saw, I have 20+ years exp. and 10 fingers. I have patched up my dads finger after he slotted it wth a 10" radial arm saw, I friend of mine cut off a finger on one, had it sewn back on, he should have left it off, it is a mess, no good for anything. Hmm i think they still have the saw..
I have a 12" in my shop I rarely use, actually thinking about moving it out to make room for the third shaper.

I'm also not a big fan of the table saw, I tend to use a circular saw or mitre saw where I can get away with it. That being said, I considered buying that safety saw a while back when it was impossible to get, then again when it came out, but the price is still prohibitive and I have considered investing in an overarm guard instead.

Mostly people lose fingers when they are working tired or distracted. I find (in reading accounts) that most people getting kickback did something unusual, don't use featherboards, don't use a splitter and guard, have a misalgined fence.

One thing I have had mind to consider is that when mitreing on a mitre saw, I have seen people not put their hands in the correct position (at the end of the back fence), and often dangle a thumb out on the cut line (since it's at an angle, often coming towards your left, it can be hard to judge). Sliding mitre saws (like radial arm saws) are even worse for this. The advent of laser guides should help since it will project a red line across any body part protruding over the cut.

I have a laser on my 10" saw and was looking for buying a "retrofit" kit that would allow me to add the laser device to a saw that doesn't have it now. Anyone know of something like that?

    Thanks,

In Canada at least, the Irwin's are gaining hold and can be found on sale here and there (like our Canadian Tire) for a reasonable cost.

    Very cool.

Found some on eBay for $23.95 with FREE shipping, too.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=320027701627

And Lowe's has them for $29.95, order online and pick up at local store.

Thanks for the tip, Mr. Happy.

no problem, this is stuff I do quite a bit of. I am a tool addict also.

if the laser line is too far from the cut line shim the opposite side of the laser line with a small piece of aluminum tape. The line is off a bit but is consistant, once you get the feel it is really acurate. The laser is great when you need to cut a pencil line that you marked from a scribe or trace. no need to measuse just put under the saw pull the trigger and rotate until the laser lines up with the pencil mark cut and your done!
If you have a tool question, from carpentry to metal working drop me a line I probably used it and broke it allready.
We play a game where the wife opens a tool catalog to a random page, I usually have 2 items from the page.
    Sick I know.
I walked into a Matco tool truck with a friend and said wow this is more more tools than I have, my friend said Duh its a tool truck!
