Of coarse I discover this after I install volume controls.
With the rear Volume Switch in Medium or High and the machine in idle mode, push left or right on the D-pad. This doesn't work with the Volume Switch in Low and it's not permanent so I'm keeping the volume mod in place.

On my Eva 5, if you turn the ring around the NERV button upon powering on the pachinko, you can select which LEDs to light. I guess it is an LED test function.
