    Question Nisihjin B detail questions

I definitely just picked up my third machine today. I believe it's a Nishijin model B but can't date it because I can't read the tiny stickers. I am also not certain if the brackety feet are on correctly. The craigslister called it a Nishijin "viking" but I am not sure why - is it just the things that kinda look like little viking ships on the side of the cell? I picked this guy up with the intent of making it my first complete breakdown restoration/custom machine. The cell is so faded I can't really see the images, except a little airliner up in the corner. It also says "sophia" on the back plastics but I gathered from my reading that that's not really super important. I don't know yet whether everything functions as it should - it's so crapped up I need to attack it with the little shop vac tomorrow. There are also about 40 balls lodged in the back that need to be rescued before I can send any test balls through the tulips.

If you have any ideas on the age or the brackety feet, please let me know. I'm excited to tear into this summer project. Here are the requisite "before" pictures:

Well what you have there is a 1972 Nishijin Model B (Super Tulip).

Yeah that machine needs a new background as I can't see any part of the graphic.

The feet are on correctly as the original packaging states.

They were imported the same time the machine was which is around 75 or so. Also as typical the vinyl coating has peeled off.

    100 machines and counting...

Welcome to the Collective: Resistance is Futile.

Once you restore one, you won't be able to stop. I have a third machine 99% complete and already itching to do another, which means most likely I'll have to sell one (which I am adverse to doing.).

Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend picking up the following book from Amazon. It is a Kindle only book, but Amazon makes Kindle readers for Phones, Tablets, Laptops, etc, so you shouldn't have any problem reading it.

It was authored by James at Pachinko Planet and is simply fantastic.

I used it to do a restoration on my two Model A's and it was invaluable for it's section on playfield replacement alone.

The book was written with a Model B in mind, so that's a double bonus for you.

It gives a great overview of the process and a good idea of parts and materials you may need to purchase (such as the gauge of wire recommended for replacing the ball track cotter pins), or easy ways to remove playfield nails.

It's $9.99 but the wealth of information is well worth the price, and you will find that you can move smoothly through the process and then rely on this board if you "really get stuck"

Amazon.com: Pachinko Machine Restoration eBook: James King: Kindle Store

One other tip, invest in about 50 or so Quart Ziplock bags, and number them as you take pieces off. The bags are for small pieces and fasteners, and you can then tape the bag to the larger pieces. That way, when you reassemble, simply work backwards through your bags. You can also use a sharpie on the back of the playfield to "number" the location of the component so you know about where it goes.

Good luck, and I'm sure you'll do fine. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own.

I can see where they got viking from. The center feature resembles a Nordic flag, and the tulips have a little extra hook at the end, kinda like the horned helmets.

Very nice find. Wish I could find one.

Now that you've pointed out those details, I can see flag and horn-like tulips. Nice catch.

I'll be downloading the pachinko book to my kindle as soon as I get home tonight and will definitely be investing in the ziploc bags. I've seen several people say that was super helpful.

The "viking ship" isn't limited to that particular machine. I know on one of my model A's I have the viking ship motif on my jackpot payout window. I'll have to check which one it is. Nishijin was all over the place at that time with their branding. On some stickers they seemed to have a medieval theme with a dragon and this "viking ship" thing. It's what makes these Nishijin's unique.

Nah I think I'll keep them.

I got them in a package deal with someone locally. I went to buy just the machine and when I showed up they had the original box, manuals, feet, transformer. Plus the machine was in great shape. Someone bought it when it was imported played with it for a month or so and put it back in the box and put it in storage. Check out the pics below.

It came out real nice looking. Never • Ending • Pachinko: Another One Off the Line Kinda sad it is already gone, wasn't even on the market for more than 4 days!

So you're not going to rub it in by tell us how little you paid for it? Or better yet, he paid you to haul it off.

Because you don't live in California...If I find a decent machine in South Florida for under a Benjamin, I consider myself lucky. If Max pays more than a Jackson, he feels as if he's been ripped off...

That's why I thought I got a steal paying just under $100 (including shipping) to have a front overflow shipped from Oregon to Florida. Ain't gonna find a Front Overflow A in Florida, and if you Find an "A", it will either be over a $100, or in terrible shape, or both.

The market here in MD is not exactly saturated either, as far as I have found. I paid $65 for this newest machine and felt ok about it.

Have you open the front of the machine to see if there a number on the playing field to date it? It should be in the lower left sometimes on the right, it may also help in the type of playing field used.
