Default Captain Herlock detours to Canada

My new Captain Herlock/Harlock from Sankyo has started his retirement voyage to Canada! After all, "Arcadian Reach" is in Canada, isn't it?

This game is the fourth popular anime series by Leiji Matsumoto to be made into a Pachinko game. They are, Dai Yamato (Star Blazers), Die Yamato 2, the Galaxy Railways, and now Captain Herlock.

I will now have all but the first Dai Yamato in my collection, to sit beside my Neon Evangelions I and II. What can I say but that I like anime and these are all great games. Once I post a review it won't be long before we see them from Panchinko/Samuraislot. LOL

Gotta love the Matsumoto/Nishizaki fandom in Japan.... that Harlock one looks fantastic! I plan on starting my anime-related collection with the Dai-Yamato 2 once I get a reply from CF Exports on the customs charges I am going to get smacked with. Thank god Canada gave us RUSH!

Haha, oh man that was my bad....

See I should not surf eBay after midnight... I saw the address
as Ontario, CA 91761 and my brain decided as it had read
Ontario, and saw the abbreviation CA which is close to CN....
well let's just say I thought these guys were in Canada...

Well, the good Captain Herlock and his crew finally made to Canada by slow boat from Japan and I wanted to drop a few quick words.

He did not disappoint. This game is right there with Dai Yamato 2/Star Blazers 2 and Galaxy Railways in playability. I had been biding my time waiting by watching the very enjoyable Captain Herlock Animated cartoon DVDs.

The cell is very left centric and is dominated by a large LCD screen, which is set well back from the cell front much like my Julie Pinball. The large ship animatronic which is docked on top and drops over the LCD screen during appropriate moments is very cool and I like the spinning rudder wheel as well. The cell lighting effects is right up there with the best of them.

The reel numbers slip on by sideways as does the scrolling screen animations. One cool element is that you can stock up to eight (8) spins! You can collect up to four black skull stocked spin indicators as well as an additional 4 red skull indicators from dropping a ball into the lower starter pocket when the tulip opens.

The Sankyo engineers as is usual are all Deaf!. The still haven't mastered the art of the volume control. The three position volume switch is useless with barely a discernable difference between the settings.

I mounted this game into my Pachinko wall and since I had a number of spare ball lifters, installed one to play this game. Using one of Dave's fine enhanced dongles, I started shooting balls with wild abandon knowing I no longer had to get to the back of the machine to obtain balls to play with. With my new-found relaxed playing style I noticed that my new Japanese balls were all engraved with large letters spelling "I'll Be".

After my first Fever I realized the solution to my last ball handling problem. I came to the conclusion that I didn't even have to access the rear of the machine to return any won balls to fill an empty ball hopper! All I had to do was rotate my firing knob to Max and watch the launched balls fly across the cell and into the hated gutter down the right hand side and into the bottom ball drain. The gutter finally had a valid purpose.

It was an epiphany. The most difficult problems sometimes have the simplest of solutions. Unless I had a mechanical breakdown, the back of the machine will no longer see the light of day.

Now why do I feel like the Maytag Repairman?

I just remembered I had this cd... Here's the heavy metal versions of the original theme songs for the Yamato, and Captain Harlock TV series. The Yamato one cracks me up every time I hear it!
