I need a new drive!

My Mac G4 combination DVD/CD superdrive died on me. It will cost around $120 to fix it, with installation. I figured since my G4 is getting old, I better just buy a external combo drive (DVD/CD) writer. This way I could also use it on my other PCs to backup files. So what I'm looking for is a external drive that will work on Mac/PC write DVD+/- R, RW and CDR, RW. I want to try and get it around $75. Does anybody know of a good reliable drive on sale anywhere. I've looked around and have gotten frustrated. Thanks for any comments or leads.

I have great luck with the Sony single layer dvd burner model drx 500ulx it has firewire and USB, the newer dual layer holds way more and of course costs more. here is a dual layer USB only for 80 http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_t...6e4889962b95a5

Thanks slothappy, only problem I can see with the Sony is it dosn't support Mac.

Did you try OWC (Other World Computing)?
I have had good luck with them in the past.

Devon, the Sony drive I initially mentioned works well with the Mac It is older so I don't see it listed at newegg. It is not cheap but solid.

..is this an EMAC ?
if so changing the internal drives are actually quite easy, the combo
drive is a pioneer and can be gotten fairly cheap if you want to
try to replace it, if you want i can post a link to replacing the drive
or you can google it (which is how I found it)

...that is unless you have your heart set on using an external...

Its a iMac G4, and it does have the pioneer, I've been going back and forth with the idea of replacing it or getting an external. The external would let me use it on all my computers. This is a big factor. I would appreciate it if you could post a link on how to replace the superdrive. I would like to se how difficult it would be. Thanks!
