What is a "QR code"??? How do you Use it???

I was wondering - What is the connection between a QR CODE such as in the attached picture got to do with Pachinko Machines - and how do you use this codes? what do they do?

The connection between QR Codes and pachinko is that many modern (made after 2003) pachinko machines will throw up a QR Code during the fever rounds for people to scan and visit the manufacturers website.

While it's certainly not done in all machines nowadays, it is becoming more common.
