Looking for laptop.

Looking for a cheap, older laptop just good enough to run a bookkeeping program. It must be able to use wireless and good disk drive. I haven't looked on ebay yet, thought I would put it out here first.

Dell's outlet site has a constant supply of their recent models. The smart move is to get your eye on a machine you may like, check the normal retail site for the new price, and then pull the trigger when you've found a good deal on the outlet machine. My 1525 was less than half the price of a new one, with more memory and an upgraded optical drive to burn DVDs. No complaints... even with Vista.

Anyone have a ac/power supply for a Compaq Presario V2000 ? This all it said on bottom of this laptop. Would like to see if this thing works but most likely does not. Most likely a dead peace of junk.

I have one for a Hp. As you know HP and Compaq are the same company. Not sure if this will work with your laptop, but here is the part number of the one I have:

How do find out the actual model # / type of a laptop? The only thing on the bottom is a number that seams to refer to the battery.

I had said something to someone I was working with today about looking for a laptop. We were working only 5 miles from his house. He said he would sell me a laptop he got along with his normal laptop for 50.00. At lunch he went home to get it. He said it was a Dell and it booted up but didn't know anything else about it other than it had a one line about 2" from the bottom of screen.
When I got back to the hospital I started it up. It has windows XP home on it. Under system it said
Intel (R) 4
mobile CPU 1.60 GHz
512 MB of RAM
It does have a line all the way across the screen about what I think is one Pixel maybe. There is nothing set up on it as if there was a fresh install of the OS. I don't have any CD's with it so if there is something with the OS I don't know what you do.
Only Numbers on bottom is Model#ACY13 but not on the battery and CY 13-15.
I still want to see if the other one I found works.

go with the Dell Laz . as for the screen its no biggie laz if the screen bothers you replacements are readily available on ebay and there not hard to change out . as for drivers you can get them from the dell web site .Anything else you need give me a shout and ill point you in the right direction . $50.00 for a p4 with a working hd and dvd is a steal.


I don't suppose you have a laptop with mac os 10.5 on it laying around ??? nah i didn't think so wonder why that is ??? Guess windows users don't need to have one !!!

Sorry no Mac's laying around. I don't even know anyone with a Mac. For that matter I don't even know or understand the difference. I know others here prefer them.
How does this new machine compare to what I have?

the dells comparable to the thinkpad its slightly faster . if you don't take the dell i will if you don't mind shipping it to me .

I will be keeping it. I am just trying to figure out witch one to keep fore the main and the one the bookkeeper will have to run the accounting program on. The think pad has windows xp professional on it witch seems better.

Old thread but I need some help! Looking for a new laptop for the home to handle mostly internet, some business and a lot of Pachitalk. Uncle Sam just sent some of my money back and I know very little about what to look for. Wife wants a Sony or Toshiba, what do you think?
