MuMu World DX - Received Junk

I was so excited when I found a MuMu World DX on Seattle's craigslist. It was only $90 and the person selling it seemed nice and I paid with PayPal. I was a little worried until I got a FedEx tracking number.

He said he had trouble with shipping the last machine he sent and that they didn't handle it with care and it was damaged. I told him UPS or FedEx could pack it very well for him.

It arrived today and the box looked okay. It also looked like it was wrapped pretty well and they used styrofoam too. I unwrapped it and the machine case was a bit scratched up (not as nice as a Gaku machine) from use. There was also a small broken piece of plastic on the bottom of the shipping box. Hmm I thought what if this from? I tried to open it and the door didn't open too well and then things were almost falling out of the door when I opened it.

The top reel case were the metal tabs hold it in place was broken (it's plastic), so the metal tabs weren't holding it in place and it was hanging by the lower tabs. That's what that small broken piece of plastic was. The broken plastic that had broken away from the reel case was still being held by the metal tabs.

The clear plastic case that connects to the lcd screen was hanging by the wires and the top plastic tabs on it that slid in to the holder on the door were cracked.

One wire to each of the volume controls was not connected to the control and looked pretty old.

I was so sad. I even tried to plug everything in just to see if anything would work. The machine did power up, but the lcd screen showed snowy lines probably because the wire connecting it to the plastic case would not plug in right since it looks like there is a bent pin.

I feel so duped. I paid with credit card, so I think I can do a charge back if necessary, but first I'll contact the seller to see what he says.

I do not think all of this could have been caused by shipping, but wanted to see what you guys thought.

I am so bummed. I was so looking forward to playing my MuMu tonight. :booboo:

You could get away with a charge back through your credit card co., but they'll want you to pay the shipping to send it back. Might be best to keep the machine and try to get a partial credit from the seller.

That's what I did in a similar situation. The shipping really makes what should be a simple thing into a complicated mess. I opted for getting some money back and then getting the machine fixed on my own. Thanks to the good people here, my machine got fixed.

So if I paid $90 for the machine and $80 for shipping = $170 total, would get the $170 back, but then have to pay for shipping it back and be out $80.

If I ask for the $90 back I am still out the $80 I paid for shipping, but I get to keep the broken machine to possibly pay to get it fixed (maybe Gaku could help) or just sadly gaze upon it every now and then.

That is a good possibility as it was not a company, but a private seller. Best to contact the seller first and see what they are willing to do. It may take several communications. Good luck!

you have the box it came in and all the packaging it came with, so no cost there. I'm sure it's much less than $80 to ship it back.

In the few instances where we had chargebacks at my job for whatever reason , Paypal gave the money back to the customer no questions asked to start with.
Then they urged the customers to negotiate with us to solve the problem for them, which in most cases, we did not have a problem doing and everything was solved.
We got the money back and the customer had his problem solved.
There was one guy that was a real pain in the a$$ though, and we refused to help him because he was threatening us with lawyers and blah blah blah, for a problem which we determined he caused himself.
He got his money back and he kept the product, he never shipped it back to us.
So I would contact the guy and question him about it and if he gives you a hard time, do the chargeback and let Paypal try to sort it out.

I'm sure they'll give you a temporary credit and ask you to ship before they make it permanent. If you don't show the Card Co. proof you shipped it back within a short period of time they'll side with the seller. You can overturn this but it's a pain. Make sure to get tracking or delivery confirmation.

Not in the couple of cases I have seen, We have one going right now that has been in dispute for 2 1/2 months.
The guy never sent the product back and Paypal has not reversed the money back to us.


Just contact the seller and say look, this thing is all messed up, what can we do about this?
Then go from there

Any day now they'll credit you, but all for nothing because six months down the road he'll finally ship the item back to you and they'll reverse the charges yet again.

Could be true on the open dispute.
But the guy who kept the unit and got his money back was about 3 years ago.
Done and over with now with that guy.
My boss blew a gasket on our Paypal account rep at the time and we didn't get squat back.
They favor the buyer at Paypal in 80% of the cases.
Again, it has only happened with us just a handful of times and it seems like if the buyer wants to be a tough guy, he will get what he wants either way.

Okay, I just sent the seller a short email letting him know it was broken and damaged and asking for a refund. I also asked him to respond back to me by Sunday night or I'd have to follow up with PayPal and my credit card company.

Your description of the damage really does not sound like it happened during shipping.
Maybe this guy knew he was sending junk, maybe not

I think I'd put that closer to 95% or better.
After having a nightmare with an item I sold on eBay for around $600, I ended up with the items back... totally trashed. They were in perfect condition when I sent them.

PayPal SAYS that they require a signature as proof of delivery, but these items were just left on my doorstep by my UPS () guy. I NEVER would have signed for them in the condition in which they arrived... the boxes weren't taped, and things were hanging out of them!

PayPal ignored their own rules requiring signature for items over a certain dollar amount... and sided with the buyer anyway. Their 'seller protection' is a bunch of hogwash... there is no such thing... they will side with the buyer in almost all cases.

And, in the meantime, my account was frozen for almost three months!
