a power supply is easy enough to swap out.. find one on ebay and test your PC repairing skills

I would recommending both these suggestions.. in this order. If you are mechanically inclined, replacing fans and power supplies is not hard, and it isn't that much of an investment.

OTOH, if it really has given up the ghost, I would heartily recommend a Mac for your next computer. I love all of mine!

Yes LD, go with the MAC, any new PC other then that and you would wind up with Vista, and I wouldn't wish that piece of crap on my worst enemy.

I'm an IT dude...it's gotta be your power supply. Also, check your battery...I have seen twice in my life time the battery failing.

I went to Circuitcity to look at the Acer and LCD monitor deal, I was told by the help that there was no deal.

I had the ad printout with today's date , but, my stupid printer didn't print the whole page with the price

when they got online at the store, the deal was no longer there just the computer.

they typed in the whole link that had bundled in it too

even though my printout showed a bundle with both items in it!!!

the two guys were very helpful trying to find it, unfortunately it was buy in store only, no order on line and pick up.

    I'm not a happy camper

Lucky, I too have had PC's die because of the cmos battery, It is the thin round type about the size of a nickel. I would at least change that to be sure. Is the fan completely dead? What size is it, I have several.

Which fan is it? There's one in the power supply, possibly one on the processor and maybe a case fan. You might find an old system at the Goodwill for a song and just take the supply out of that. Shouldn't be hard to find one close to your vintage.

I got online this morning and the Acer deal was back on Circuitcity site

I took a picture of the price and a printout of the ad to the store.

It showed up online there, but the prices were not discounted for the package on their sales system.

the salesperson had to go in the back and adjust the prices to be the same as the ad

    under 400.00 with taxes

now for the fun of setting it up

Well after over 2 hours of updates downloading and installing and making my own dvd backup disk, I finally got online

Pachitalk was my first choice of site to visit

It loads much faster than my old system, but, will take a little getting used to
