Default Advice on pool/billiards table setup?

Got a free Brunswick Bristol II awhile back. Got new legs made up for it as it had to get refelted anyway. The guy who is refelting is charging $300 which I don't mind as he is doing all the bumpers as well changing form green to maroon. But he wants an addditional $125 to relevel the slate and table wtf!? Its a 3 pc. slate table I have a hardware store so I probably have the stuff? What do you use to fill the cracks in on slate pool table? I cant see paying him an additional $125 thats rediculous!

I think most people use hot wax to seal the slate slabs:

BTW, it isn't difficult to change the felt. Just look at how the old felt was applied using the bumper rail screws after stretching the felt. In the corner pockets, you'll have to make some small cuts to the felt which will wrap around under the slate and be held in place with an adhesive. (Bumpers are easy, too.) I originally built my slate table from a kit back in the '70s and have since recovered it again twice just to freshen it up. It’s gone from green to light gray and it is currently burgundy.

Google around a bit as there is a lot of information on covering the tables.

Good quality felt is pretty expensive, so you really aren't overpaying for that work at $300.

Below is a picture in which you can see one of the small cuts made to allow a smooth wrap around the pocket area:

Actually i was being serious.. i have always been fascinated in how things are built.. and well pool tables are such cool things.. I am sure we have all had fond memories of hangign out at a friends house who has had a pool table or the local billiards hall, waiting your turn for a table to free up etc.. having a few beers. and having a great time.

just never knew what they were made of.. Slotters link showed a step by step to the construction of a table and what goes into it.. it was neat..

    Serious Sid out

I had one as a kid, now I only have room for and am constantly in search of a bumper pool table. It's not exactly pool, but it'll work for me.
