For anyone looking for a Card Reader:

    (link expires in 4 days)
    http://page3.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c98832822

This seller is kind of like a pawn shop. They have alot of these units, I have purchased 3 from them. They can be contacted directly outside Yahoo auctions. Shipping is the big expense, perhaps whoever you deal with for pachinkos/pachislos can make the connection for you.

I think I have a pinout for the 25DB, need to upload the pic of the page and have 'someone' look it over.

So far, on a Pachislo ther are only 3 connections-
1 - a 4 pin connector that stops the reels (same as the buttons on the front)
2 - a 8 pin connector for the battle counters
3 - a multi-pin connector, not sure, possible error handling

seeing your posts in the elco led thread are you looking to join the investigation as we are not sure about the rj45 yet as to if it is a controle port from ball loan machine
Yeah I was interested in poking around and trying to figure out a way to interface to a pachislo if possible. I have experience with serial and ethernet interfaces so this would be rather fun.

Without having seeing any such connectors in my pachislos yet or ever seeing a pachi parlor in my life, I can't say with any experience. But I'd guess they used standard RS-232 serial in that RJ-45. Considering the kind of control you're talking about and how there is such lo bandwidth data going between the machines and a host system, I wouldn't think it would be cost effective to toss a LAN chip along with programming an ethernet stack in their firmware.

I use terminal servers all the time. These are off-the-shelf serial port servers which connect via LAN to control PC(s) but spawn multiple RS-232 ports. Typically term servers use RJ-45 connectors for their compact footprint and standard cabling as opposed to cables with DB-9's on them.

So I take it I should look on any boards mounted towards the back of the machine? There are many empty connectors in various places, but so far I haven't seen any DB or RJ-45 connectors.

    If your talking Pachinko:
Any empty 2 pin connectors near the top (usually the right side, as you look at the back of the machine) are for the battle counters. Check here
    http://www.gibisans.com/Pachinko_Battle_Counter.html
Towards the bottom of the page, you see two connectors that I have yet to know about. One is the RJ45 connector. I have a manual (yes Arby, I will send it back!) that has connector diagrams for the Palot machine (pachinko/slot) and it has a 6 pin connection that is not shown hooked up to anything that from memory has the first 2 pins Data +, will have to get back to my truck and see what the other 4 are.
Also, it shows a 25 pin connection, also not hooked to anything. The connections that the manual shows connected are for internal machine connections. Had Rupan take a look at it and he says it mostly seems to be LED indicators. See if it makes any sense to anyone:

    On a Pachislo:
Circuit Board (usually located upper right inside machine cabinet):

The top 4-pin is remote reel stop (same action as stop buttons)
    The large multi-pin connector, ?
The 10-pin connector is for the battle counters:

I think the 'remote reset' is for resetting the battle counter after a bonus (resets the number of spins since last bonus)

Ahh...ok I know which board you are talking about on a pachislo. So normally would there be a cable plugging directly to those connectors to outside the machine (with some strain relief I hope)?

I'll pull one of my boards and look at it more closely.

Sorry, I don't have any pachinkos yet. Well actually I do, but it's vintage from the early 70's..but I doubt there's any interface to anything on it.

That seems to match the pinout of the card reader connector from what I was looking at last week.
SEG A-G are segment drives and DG1-3 are digit drives for the 3 digit 7 segment led displays that are next to the card reader buttons on the front wing of the pachinko.
TDLO goes to a small red LED that is next to this display.
TDS and RES are connected to the two card reader buttons on the front wing. When the buttons are pressed these pins are connected to LG (0v)
BRDY and BRQ are opto isolated inputs (drive from an open collector driver).
EXS and PRDY are opto isolated outputs (open collector).
Not sure what PSI is (it is internally connected to LG on my Sankyo pachinkos)
VL is intended to be supplied by the card reader (ie generated from the AC24V outputs) and the pachinko machine uses the presence of this supply to determine that there is a card reader present (this is what the components on your dongle are for).
I'd be interested in seeing translations of the Japanese text for the following pins, as these are the only one's I've not been able to figure out.
    2 PSI
    11 BRDY
    12 EXS
    13 PRDY
    23 BRQ
Hope this helps anyone else trying to figure this one out.

Looks like I started some hot topic with asking the good DR about the ports, Ive noticed on my Pink Panther that I get errors on the screen when the top ball feeder is empty, could these connections be a way of feeding error reports back to the attendant, maybe coins sticking on the paschilo or ball feed jams on the pachinko ?.
surely there must be a way of writting to the roms on the paschilo for updating bugs etc that might arise in the software running the machine, not many programs are totaly bug free, also they must be able to down load coinc in/out (I have a Cluedo quiz machine that has a coin in and a coin out counter).
gambling is the same all over the world and no matter what machine it is on the casino/parlour owner likes to know that hes winning and that everyhting is running smoothly, also needs to know if anybody has sussed out the system and how to beat it.
I had a friend who used to stand for hours watching people playing quiz machines until he could answer the vast majority of questions they threw up, hed then go around town emptying them all, until the landlord sussed him and stopped him playing them.
