Default Fluorescent light over reels in Mephisto never goes on

We have two Mephisto machines and the fluorescent light that is directly above the reel window does not light up on either one of them; not during regular play, and not during bonus rounds. We asked Gaku (we recently purchased one of the Mephistos from him), and he checked his other Mephisto and found the same problem with that one. He & I each installed a different light card (the silver box on the door) but that didn't help. Is there anyone here who has a Mephisto who has either noticed this or found a solution? It just doesn't make sense to install a light above the reels that never goes on.

Ooops. Hit the wrong forum button. Sorry. This should have been posted in the pachislo forum.

I have a Sea God and that light only goes on in bonus rounds.

I thought it was broken when i first got it.

I dont think I have ever seen this on on my Mephisto either. Yamasa's seem to really focus on the reel back lights. It may be as simple as they have a stock design for machines that leave them free to use anything they wish to add to a machine. and on this particular machine that light is just not wired to anything. If they left the socket without a light then parlours might complain thinking that it is missing the part, so to keep the return rate down they just throw in the light bulb.

That's probably right as far as the stock design theory goes, except that I traced the wire from the bulb down to the light card (the silver box on the door) and it does actually plug in there. I can't say it detracts at all from the way the machine looks; I just couldn't fathom why in the world it would be there if it wasn't supposed to be lit. But since nobody's lights up, it must not be meant to light up. Thanks.

Well, on the heels of what Chris V said, I decided that the light over the reels was not really an integral part of this machine. But there was an immediate positive benefit: The light at the top of the same Mephisto machine was burnt out, and it uses the exact same type of fluorescent bulb as the one over the reels, so since the one over the reels wasn't doing anything anyway, I just used it to replace the burnt out one. It worked perfectly; and I saved myself the hassle of having to get another bulb. So anyone who has a Mephisto and any other machine that has a burnt out FD8 fluorescent bulb, just grab the one from your Mephisto and done!

Well I know this is an old thread but i just had to bring this up for mephisto owners. My light above the reels came on today for the 1st time ever and it is staying on. I turned on the machine to play and noticed right away that my reels were really bright. I played for around 20 min. and it never shut off.
So the light is hooked up and it does work just not sure why?
