Default Star Wars - noob question about nails..

Just got my Star wars today .....

However, noticed that I simply wasn't scoring in the lower left pockets at all....

Removing the glass, I noticed all the pocket nails had been bent to drive the ball away from the pocket ( assuming it had been done deliberately in parlor ? ) IN several thousand balls I didn't score a single pocket ?

I am assuming it is OK to give them a VERY light tap to re-adjust them ?

Also can you set the level of the machine like a Pachislo at all ? Any place I could get advice on setting up correctly ? ( although its kind of obvious which pins need to be moved to make the play less one-sided....)

    Cheers

Just click on the word nails here to get instructions on nail straightening posted by Arby. No, there is no way to change the difficulty by switches on a pachinko.

Thats what I was looking for I remember stumbling across it some time ago..... its a bit like Nail Zen isn't it ? .... some extremely important concepts to understand the flow of the game, and how carefully layout is considered...... I guess the golden rule is VERY small adjustments and see how play is affected......

A little note: many parlors will focus the pins away from the side pockets because 1) they're usually not necessary to land (especially for a reel-based machine) and 2) they don't want players to exploit those pockets for a few extra balls or possible ROM cheats.

That detracts hugely from the variety of a game though doesn't it, as you are essentially shooting for just one hole.....?

BTW..... what does that little gate on the mid left face do .... has a little red ball and a schematic of the firing mech on the front.....

    Cheers

Those side pockets really don't serve much purpose other than a minor 7-10 ball payout; for Japanese players, it doesn't count for anything because, even with favorable pins, the chance of getting balls in there is low anyway. I do understand your guys' need to make the most of your investments though. The main pockets are the start pockets; always be aiming for them.

As for the gate you are asking about, can you provide a visual reference? My jourmal (linked below) has a pic of the cel so maybe you can use that

If that is the case, rupan, in home use games should the side pockets be opened up even more -- to make them be a bit more interesting? Your opinion?

Slotter, I thought of this, but decided to leave the pins as-is on my Godzilla.

Figure if you hit those pockets the machine pays out balls and thats just the more balls that empty from your hopper. So, you have to refill it more often.

(Ask Mark if you don't believe me.)

Does anyone know where to get one of those PAchinko path testers like they used to give out with the 70's machines, the ones that had an 11mm ball soldered at one end and a 10mm ball soldered at the other? I'm not much into soldering heavy metal and wondered if these guys still exist in NA?

    Many thanks in advance.

After receiving my Pachinkos, I set all the pins basically straight. At that point, most machines seem to give a fair mix of rewards and losses. If not, I adjust the start pocket just a little at a time until total payout is so very slightly in favor of the house.

I do track total payout on the Pachinkos and this method has worked for me.

I think slotter is right,I set all my pins straight on my machines because I like them as close to factory as possibly. I think the parlors cheat when they bend the nails but I guess it all depends on what side of the fence you are on.

I always bend mine slightly in favor of the house. It's for fun not gambling.

We bet grape sodas on the payouts and I don't think the house should have to supply the grape sodas after spending to supply the games. Anyhow, I like a slight favor towards the house. Unfortunately, thus far everyone goes home with more grape sodas than they bring so far. I need to re-adjust or something.

BTW, the grape soda betting comes about because my best friend always bet those sodas in his college days. It works.

To me, the side pockets are one of the least interesting aspects of the machines so that's up to you, I guess. I really don't think of pachinko in terms of home usage much. One day, maybe...

I guess I can only blame this type of thing on Slotter.

Yep, the "One day, maybe..." part was almost missed, Jon. I wonder when that day will be?
