Default Safe way to remove the red MAX lens on SBJ?

Anyone know of a safe way to remove the red lens cover from the MAX bet button on Super Blackjack without cracking it? There are four small slots on the red lens cover that fit over four ridges, but I can't figure out how to get the lens over the ridges; I don't want to do anything to crack it. I'd like to clean some dirt that's underneath that shows every time the MAX bet button lights up, but it's not worth breaking it over. I've been able to remove the assembly with no problem; I just got stuck trying to get the red lens cover off.

use electronic cleaner to clean with a air hose gentle. I have done this in the past on parts (not what you have).

Pfurman, I had to take apart the MAX button on my SBJ also!

Use a small flat head jewlers screw driver and GENTLY pop those tabs in until you can easily remove the cover.

(Ask Mark if you don't believe me.)

I tried doing exactly that, except it didn't seem like the tabs had any give to them; they seemed solid. So then I tried twisting slightly instead, and could raise the red lens cover a bit, but it was starting to deform the lens and so I stopped.

E-mail milt and gaku and find out how much a replacement would cost. That way if you totally screw things up you know how much it would cost to replace. If it's a high cost item then leave it alone, or be very careful. If it's reasonably priced, well you can be more agressive. The way this post is going it sounds like you are going to be the ginny pig. I know how you feel though, my Neo Planet t skill stop buttons have the same thing, but after looking at what I would have to take off to get to those 3 buttons to clean them. I decided to live with it.

    Cheers,

I've actually had pretty good success with some skill stop buttons - the ones that don't have lenses attached like the SBJ MAX bet button. For example, on Sammy's Animal King, all I had to do was push in the two white prongs on the side, push out the whole assembly, remove the thin plastic opaque circle that was on top of the dirt/dust, clean the dust/dirt underneath it, lightly oil the spring, and then reassemble everything. That was a piece of cake. Stop buttons like on Thunderbirds and Arra King are set up similar to the SBJ MAX bet button, so I've always left them alone. It looked like the MAX bet button on SBJ would be easier because the openings were bigger than on the skill stop buttons. But that didn't turn out to be the case. And even though I have nothing against the little critters, I'd prefer NOT to be a guinea pig, thank you.

The things we do for the ladies.................

1st remove the button and get a small screw driver...
    http://www.geocities.com/chazbeenhad/MISC/sbjmax1.jpg

Then pick the left or right side of the button. Insert the flat head of the driver under the red plastic not in the little slot. Twist the screw driver gently till the red pops over the tab. Again, GENTLY.
    http://www.geocities.com/chazbeenhad/MISC/sbjmax2.jpg

Then choose the top or bottom side, place the driver under (not in the tab slot) the red and this time gently lift up using the leverage of the lip around the white plastic. Again GENTLY.

You should be home free from here .... good luck and dont force anything too much. Mine comes apart kinda easy. I gave you wrong info about pressing the tabs earlier. Sorry!

You see, only a lady would say pish-posh. A less cultured female would utter something much more crude.

Mine had/has at least parts of two letters blocked. And I tried my best, chaz. I have some nice jeweler's screwdrivers; went real easy. The good news is: At least I didn't break anything. The bad news is: I could only budge it so far; and it just didn't free up enough to make me feel I could push it any further without breaking it. I think it's probably time for "Plan B", which is to check with Gaku and Milt to see how much a clean replacement would cost, then once I have that, I'd feel more comfortable about pushing it further, knowing I had a replacement in hand. To be continued...(And thanks again for all your help. I think it will bear fruit down the road. And probably for other folks as well.)

I can see I can't win this one no matter which way I go. So I'll just haul *ss to the corner bar; throw back some brewskies; and wake b/f up when I get home. (Hope he ate his Wheatie's today.)
