The color is copper, the tokens aren't copper.

Then perhaps they are copper coated...as they seem to have the same tarnishing/aversion to water properties as copper. Either way, it is ashame they don't keep there nice shiny look.

So far the nicest silver tokens we've gotten have been from VGC Mike. Used, clean, polished, nice weight, and all the same design. We have several thousand DGI tokens and aside from feeling lighter, we've had no problems with them. For a while, Milt was sending these gold-colored very shiny tokens that looked like they belonged in a kid's game or something. We ended up mixing them with some of the DGI's and some varied/mixed used silver tokens and that's become one of our favorite looks.

Uh, actually, we do have the same problem with the DGI tokens. I just noticed it this morning. And unfortunately, CLR did not fix the problem; if anything, it made the black spots/marks more obvious. I think I'm going to get some Tarn-X and see if that helps. When I first read this post it seemed like my experience matched that of Steam Furnace. But when I looked closer at the DGI tokens (aka Pachislot777 on ebay) a lot of them did have dark spots on them. And I can only imagine that over time, they'll look even worse. What a drag.

Yes. If the Tarn-X doesn't work, that was the other option I figured would definitely work.

What size rock tumbler would you recommend? I did some Googles and found the Lortone brand in sizes ranging from 3 lb to 12 lbs in either single or double drum configurations; with online prices ranging from $67 (New, 3lb/single drum) to $168 (New, 12 lb/double drum), not including ebay auctions.

Arby says about 1/3 tokens and 1/3 crushed shells.

About 150 tokens each time tumbled for a few hours or more

So it's not particularly comforting to hear that the Chicago Electric Power Tools machines are designed to run for days.

Probably just the way they list them to say they run for days at a time. I believe others have been pretty satisfied with these tumblers. About the only thing that would wear out might be the belt and there are replacements for that. Harbor Freight stands by their products pretty well, too.

(no, I do not work for HF. )

Well then, let's hear from some of you Harbor Freight tumbler users out there. Let's hear the success stories; how many tokens fit in each 3 lb tumbler; how many hours you tumble the tokens; and how nice & shiny the tokens are when they're done, etc. I'm sure the naked city is filled with oodles of juicy token cleaning adventures.

Dalto - Did you ever contact DGI/Pachislot777 to make them aware of the problem with the tokens? And if so, what was there response?

I did not try to contact them with the issue. I just assumed it was a property of the metal they used.

Well, there's a HF store near us and we're gonna pick up the double drum tumbler tomorrow. They said their price was $50 but they'd give it to us for the internet price if we print the ad, so that was nice. Now, the only question is what type of media to use. They sell crushed walnut in 2 grades: 24 (fine) & 12 (coarse). Their 25 pound bag is $25. (I'm sure that'll be more than enough for the tokens we'll be doing.) I think the 24 is the way to go. I'll post the results after we fire it up.

Ok. It seems to me that whatever metal they used, it was defective. Tokens shouldn't look trashed after a couple weeks of use. So I put in a call but their tech person had already left. I want to see what they have to say. I'll post as soon as I know more.

Thanks for responding, LD. That's a good amount. And since the harbor freight has 2 3 pound drums, that should work even better. As posted in another thread, we're going to get the tumbler and the vibratory cleaner at Harbor Freight tomorrow, then compare how each one works side by side, then post the results.
