Default Anyone found a really good scratch remover for the reel glass?

I did some Google searches but am not sure if what I found will really do what I want it to or not. Has anyone had any experience with plastic polishes that claim to help remove or at least reduce visible scratches, particularly in the reel glass area? That seems to be one spot in particular that really takes a major beating on a lot of Pachislo machines. If so, I'd appreciate your response(s) as far as what works, and/or what doesn't. TIA.

    Pfurman,
I recently scratched the windshield during the installation on an airplane that I'm building (replacement cost= $5000.00 usd ) So I figured that it was ceartinly worh an attempt at repair. Found this stuff
    http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...olitemetal.php
Designed as a metal polish, but works flawlessly on plastics and glass.
Worked great for me. If you do decide to try it, please let me know what you think. BTW it's available in 1 or 2 lb containers ( 1 lb would last a lifetime, unless you're Milt or Gaku )
    Happy Hollidays

I think most people have been really happy with the Novus polishes. Use #3 for the heavier scratches and buff out and shine with #2. You can use #1, too, but it's not really needed. There has been a lot of discussion about polishes -- put in search keyword "novus" and you'll read a lot of thoughts as well as where to purchase.

Biggest trick is finding a suitable cloth to remove it with. I tried with several types and one of the only ones I found was a small cloth used for Sony PSP's.

Even the paper towel like rag that comes with the novus kit leaves hairline scratches.

I use very old, soft, and many-times washed 100% cotton T-shirts to remove them. About the only cloth that is soft and smooth and absorbent enough!

b/f said he used to use old diapers when he did auto detailing, and had just said to me before I opened up this thread that he had some we could use. He said he'd never really found anything that he was happy with, because they all left fine scratches, and sometimes it looked worse after some of those polishes were applied. That's why I posted to ask if anyone found something they really liked that worked. I know he uses Turtle Wax polishing compound to get paint overspray off of metal, and Meguiar's cleaning polish for less heavy stuff. So if that Novus stuff works, or one of the other recommendations, that'd be great.

    Guess it Depends. ;-)

Actually, I know it's O/T, but personally, if I were going to market an adult diaper, I think I'd come up with a name a lot more CERTAIN than "Depends". I can just hear this convo: "Hey, Marvin....how are those adult diapers you got workin out?" "Depends". I mean, I'd want something like: "FORT KNOX", "24/7" or "NEVER FAILS". Depends, well...just sounds too iffy to me.

You got my vote for what ever you run for, I think you not only could handle it, but have it end up better than any one thought.

Use #3 first and little is alway best, work across the scratch till it is darn near faint. Than clean with warm water and mild soap to get all the #3 off, this is a must.
Now use #2 (no pun intended) and work it 90 degrees across the other way, again little and work it. After you think you got it good. Wipe and polish with a clean soft cloth, get all the #2 film off. Look to see how it went, redo any or all steps to do any better.
The key here is time and elbow grease, stay away from a polisher machine, will get to hot and burn the plastic.

I've removed scratches and marks that most would have thought to be unremoveable with the Novus #3 followed by #2. My machines all look nearly perfect because of some time spent with this product. Follow Arby's advice above and be prepared to spend a little time. It will be worth it.

Old cotton barber towels, huh? From the looks of yer av, I'd have figured you must have used up all of your old shirts.

But seriously...do you think the cloth that you use with the Novus products is critical? I just ordered 3 x 8 oz bottles of 1, 2, & 3, to give it a shot. It sounds like from what you're saying it's difficult to rub too much as long as you're not using a machine. But another poster said he ended up with fine scratches because of the cloth he used. Any thoughts, AC?

Soft and clean is the answer. And, yes, the cloth does make a difference. Old, well washed absorbent cotton like the diapers or T-shirts are best. It's not critical with the #3, but when you get down to the #2 and want it perfect, the cloth becomes important not to put fine scratches on the plastic.
