    Default apollo comparison

want to purchase an apollo1(13) pachink but need some feedback on playability compared to a thunderbird or popeye type machine? Will a 12 year old boy enjoy the playability of apollo over the other 2 machines? Is it kid friendly with the extra game play features or does it tend to get confusing and frustrating?

You're talking about two different types of machines here. I think, with kids, it might be better to stick with LCD type machines.

    Thanks ruppan,
I was hoping that it would create more of a challenging and entertaining aspect for the kids to enjoy. I guess I don't know enough to understand what you mean by different type of machine.

Well, Apollo differs from the other machines you mentioned in different ways. The basic gameplay is the same but the odds and payouts are handled differently (Apollo having lower odds but lower payouts) and Apollo forces you to hit different parts of the field at different times to collect jackpots.

The other machines are simpler in that you can hold your shooting position and basically sit back and watch the LCD, something that I enjoy doing a lot myself.

I keep looking at the "Apollo 13" machines and wonder: What on earth do they have to do with Apollo 13? They have some cute little space men on them, but I can't see anything to tie it to the NASA mission of 1970

I also notice many of the Apollo 13 ads say the machine is officially licensed. Licensed from whom? NASA? What am I missing here?

I have an Apollo 13 & a Popeye. Alas, no Thunderbird. Yet!
As an adult ( supposedly!? ) I prefer the Apollo 13. Im no longer a big fan of LCD screens as they are too overbearing & take away from the action & skill. (IMO)
But if I were a 12 year old boy I would probably prefer the Popeye for the same reason. Big LCD with lots of stuff going on to watch & less need for accuracy & play style. You only have one side of the board to play on a Popeye anyway. Just turn the crank & let it fly.
A Battle Jenken ( Rock Paper Sissors ) would probably, IMO, be better than either. The LCD is more fun with more characters & more nonlinear action than the Popeye & it requires more in the way of skill to reach bonus rounds.
Its probably less money & offers more game play & wont become boring as quicky as the others.

Heres a link to TA's site. They have a good description of this game...

What do most pachinko and pachislo machines have to do with 90% of the themes they deal with?

The manufacturers toy with different themes to see what attracts people most. The most attractive being the ocean and traditional Japanese events.

As most people know, I am with doodude on this. I love my Maturi "Apollo" and "Penguin" machines. While there are no LCD's on these models, all the different aspects involved with them make them very playable. I only wish I could say that about the Pittsburg Penguins..............
