Default Sanyo Sea Story - Volume is deafening! Help!

As far as I can tell, this machine has a single speaker and it's located toward the bottom of the machine in the overflow tray.

How the heck can I access that to put a volume controller on it? When I open the entire cabinet up the speaker is tucked away inside a black box and it looks like I would have to take a lot of the guts out to get to it.

I thought this may be a machine that allowed access to the 'third' door that has been posted but I don't see a lever on the right when I open the glass at all so it appears that this isn't an option.

    This is a Sanyo machine.

I am begging for help before I go entirely deaf.

    Thanks!

    -Jeff

It has the third door as all modern cabinets do, the lever to open it is probably just in a different place.

BTW, which "Sea Story" did you get? Lucky dog...

You're one of the reasons I got the Sea Story machine rupan . It's called the 'New Sea Story'. It's quite a treat to play and I love the look and lights. Now if I can figure out how I can access this darn speaker without disassembling the whole thing. Grrr....

That's a wise, wise choice. I don't know if you have or plan to get any other pachinko machines but you may notice SS is not as flashy or have the bells and whistles like others do but it makes all of that up in it's simple but deep gameplay.

If you ever have a question or need a translation with that machine, I can do it to a very minute detail, that's how much I love and have studied it.

Anyway, back to the third door, were you not able to locate it? I'm absolutely certain it will open, I've seen parlor attendants open them all the time.

Rather than a thrid door, the primary glass/door includes the ball handling mechs being accessible when you open it so they didn't include a third door it appears. That's unfortunate because I can see where the speaker is but there is no easy way to get to it. I am going to have to yank it back out of the cabinet and try to squeeze in a solder job with a volume controller to make this thing playable .

Hmmmm...that's too bad. It sure would be nice to have some master controller like the parlors have.

Just follow the wires out and install the volume control anywhere along the wires that is convenient.

(Ask Mark if you don't believe me.)

I took care of this today but wow did I have to take this thing apart to do it. If anyone ever gets this machine and wants to put a volume controller on thr speaker, PM me. I'll walk you through it. Make sure you have plenty of tools. It was a bear!

If you follow the wires from the bottom of the machine there is a sound switch. (Not much difference I know) follow it back there is a patch lead from this switch which is nice and easy to get to without removing anything. I sold one at the show I was at today and fitted a control in under 2 mins.
If you want any photos ask and I will help.

    Good to hear.

Can we expect to see a machine review soon?

I saw that but there was no way I could get under there to solder a controller on since there wasn't enough wire for me to splice and then get the volume controller on. I actually took off most of the electronics on the back to get to the black box and speaker underneath it. Maybe the type of volume controller makes a difference. Thanks for your response though. I appreciate it.

I would love to do a review but I can see there is so much to learn!

In terms of modding for volume control, would I be right in thinking that there is no way of doing this without soldering (I've never soldered and would be afraid of ruining a machine)?

if you have room.the wire can be cut & a pink (small) butt splice. can be crimped onto the wire ends . this will allow you to add more wire . a good pair of crimpers will make a solid joint. just don't get any of the wires to short when you cut them.

I don't understand...???? There is loads of wire, it does dissapear into the works but reappears out on the back with a convenient connector so you can work on it with loads of space.
Not sure how to do photos here but I will send a photo if anybody wants one.

if you can get to the 2 wires that hook to the speaker. 1 can be cut and a 8 ohm resistor spliced in line . i would put at least a 5 watt one. if you aren't in a big rush i can make & post a few pics.

This is the speaker wire you need to cut into it is very easy to work on and the lead has the connector you can undo so working is even easier.
