Yeah, not sure if we can trust that Sneaky Pete. Anyway, the fees are not too bad. Most of my auctions are under $100 and I usually get charged a buck or so per transaction, not including eBay's insertion and sales fees.

It takes a few days to transfer money from paypal to my bank account. Is it worth it to get that paypal debit card? They say it is free.

Yes... the debit card is one way to get back some of those fees.
You can also use it at an ATM for cash quick, if you don't mind paying *yet another* fee.

But, Slotter needs his dividends on that stock... he's on a fixed income, ya know! So, you'll be helping him out by paying them.

You won't, of course, pay any fees on your purchases (the seller will, not you), just on your sales and they are minimal. Not a big deal, imo... (especially when you own stock...)

    Just kidding! haha!

You really have no choice, Laz. Either you pay slightly more (maybe a percent) or you can't sell on eBay through PayPal and the fact that you don't offer PayPal will chase off more customers than that small percentage ever will cost you.

    You did the right thing.

Well off to put a new nail in the shelf I got at the dump for free! It is good when you can come home post here some questions on things then go to the dump and bring something new home to sell on ebay. Then see answers to your questions. Thanks Guy's! Total for last weeks trip to the dump is 50.00 in my pocket!

Oooh, interesting situation. I say go ahead it's OK to ship if it's cleared through Paypal and it's showing as cleared on your "My eBay" page. If there are any problems, it's technically their fault and not the Buyer's or yours.

I got this from the buyer of the leather jacket.
    (
    David,
About half an hour ago I made a mistake and withdrew most of my money out of my Paypal account, then looked down and realized you hadn't yet claimed your payment, so now there isn't enough to cover the jacket.
One bad, bad click. And a pretty serious oversight on my part for which I apologize.
I quickly reversed the action by requesting the money back from my bank, but it's going to take probably until Friday for it to go through. I've got some auction payments receivable still pending, but I shouldn't really count on those to make up the deficit.
Of course, when you withdraw the funds from Paypal it is immediately subtracted, but to transfer it back takes the time...
    Sorry about this.
Can you please wait a few days to accept the payment?
I'll notify you when the funds are sufficient, but I'm reasonably sure it will be Friday.
    Best Regards, Ian Windham )

Then I see another email from ebay from the buyer.
    (
Dave, Good, payment went through. Great!!
OK then, disregard my last email and thanks.
    Ian)

Paypal said it is cleared now that I upgraded my acount. So do I sent this thing out on Thursday like I planed?

What a hassle. The buyer is not too swift -- in fact, he's an idiot... how could he not be aware you hadn't gotten your money yet??????? All that information should be available to him. Keep the coat until you learn more at this point.

    This guy makes me nervous.

I could be wrong here, but it seemed like the guy had some money in there... just not enough to cover the jacket. When he paid, the difference was made up by his credit card on file.
Hence... with that bit of funding, he used a credit card, right?
That flagged the sale as a credit card, and forced Laz to make the decision to decline... OR accept by upgrading his account.

You did upgrade, right Laz? If so, I'd THINK your money should be safe if you accepted payment.

Still... people DO cover themselves by funding with a credit card. It's been mentioned on here before, "Use a credit card through PayPal".

The only way you can accept those payments is with a Premier or Business account.

Yeah... you pay a little extra now, but you will have more potential buyers, IMHO. People DO use PayPal, and they DO use credit cards to fund it. If you're going to be selling much, you'll eventually come to the upgrade decision anyway.

Take the sale... it looked decent to me.

Looks to me like the jacket payment went through... why hold it from shipping?
This guy's feedback is high and decent. If it was a noob, then I might hold... but...
    Am I missing something??

I agree, he might be ditzy but

    1) he acknowledged the error and apologized, that goes a long way IMO
    2) you are covered in the fact that eBay and Paypal have marked it as an OK transaction.

If you are concerned, take screenshots of you My eBay page and Paypal account page for your records. But, especially if he's got a verified account, your shipment should be good to go IMO.

I know what happened...when you pay with a credit card, as a buyer everything looks fine. On one or two occasions days have passed then the seller tells me that "he 'can't' accept the payment"--meaning he won't pay the fees involved with upgrading. If the auction didn't list "PayPal instant transfer (no credit cards)" the buyer wouldn't have known you didn't have the right type of account, and would have assumed credit card use was OK. If I didn't see this myself, slotter, I would have thought what you did...but there is NO indication to a buyer that this issue exists because PayPal wants that leverage on the seller to upgrade (admittedly, this is irritating to all).

When you upgraded the account that payment cleared instantly. You did right to upgrade, you've got the money...I say send it. This buyer was only confused because PayPal does NOT tell the buyer that you didn't have the proper PayPal account type, it just acts as if his credit card went through and all is well. This buyer did everything right, with good communication. And in the future, your buyers will have no problems with credit cards.

BTW...there are VERY few auctions I would bid on that don't accept PayPal, while I am all too willing to bid if they do accept it...and you can always figure the PayPal fee amount into your shipping price...I've skipped quite a number of auctions upon seeing "money order or PayPal instant transfer only (no credit cards)" because the odds of me having a hassle are much greater with sellers that use this language (in my experience) than those who act professionally and figure their fees into the deal in an inoffensive way (as suggested above)...just my two cents...
