I used it for my arcade cabinet.

Huzzah! My roll has arrived - just in time for Christmas. (Er, next year!) Now, any hints or tips on how to put the stuff on would be appreciated please........

(ie: do I have to fill the screw rebate holes before covering them, etc??)

    Cheers,

    Foxy

    Hi Steve,

After covering two machines here are my wrapping tips:

    To prepare the case:

    1. Don't worry about holes (even big hand grip holes cover alright - one of my machines had 4 and I left the bottom two covered with no visible signs)

    2. Do remove any stickers or lumps/bumps from the case including any swarf like bits where holes have been drilled. You probably get the idea holes cover okay, but bumps show through.

    3. The only place to consider wood filler/surgery would be the corners of your machine. If they are not square (say the top board does not come right to the edge of the side board) you may want to fill or trim if you have an overhanging bit

If you are unsure if any work is necessary just cut a bit of plastic from the roll and stick it on. You'll soon see what needs doing to meet your required standard.

    When applying the material:

    1. Cut a length that is a bit longer than you need to wrap the machine - this is easier than trying to handle the weight of the roll

    2. Don’t worry about getting the material 'straight'. When you trim it the pattern looks fine even if you don't apply it perfectly square. Focus more on bubble reduction and tight corners

    3. Remove some of the backing material and stick to one side. Get this bit good (you can pull it off and re apply it), then pull it tight around the corner to cover the top, then the other side.

    4. Wrapping the material just underneath the case is all you need do (obviously), so I found it good to put the machine on a table where I could slide it just off the edge

    5. Secure the bits underneath with some gaffa tape or something. The adhesive on the material takes a while to set (days for full adhesion) so this ensures the corners (especially the bottom ones) remain tight

    6. Trim the edges with a scalpel. Incline the blade to something like 45 deg along the edges, and face the blade very gently 'into' the case to get a nice sharp edge. Stop immediately if the blade cuts into the wood - you can do this bit a couple of times until you have got all the edge bits perfect

    7. You'll defiantly appreciate it if you can get someone to give you a hand at the start of the process where you have the full length of material flapping around everywhere

Well, that’s about the sum total of my knowledge - I hope this helps you do a really good job. Pix would be nice! Good Luck.....

    Cheers

The only other thing I suggest is to overlap the front of the case where the door meets. This will give you a slight margin for error and give the door a small padding to press against and quiet it a bit.

That laminate looks fantastic. I was looking for a woodgrain finish or something close. From the links below do you think the cherry laminate or the black ash would look nicer? Would you recommend something else? If you type in vinyl laminate on the search you can see other colors.

to be honist i would go for the black ash as it gives the machine an origonal clean look you wouldent find a cherry finish machine and may not look right because of if you know what i mean

I followed the link to Parts Express for the Black Laminate and it has been discontinued. This looks like it may be the replacement.

I like it but for a more original look the textured not the fake wood grain might look better, has anyone tried this one

I used the textured vinal (not wood grain) on two of my pachislos. I have not used the wood grain one. I may get the cherry for my third pachislo wich needs fixing up.
