You're a casino gambler, aren't you? How often do you see people get ahead of the house (ie actually win)? Very rarely....

    Same thing with pachinko.

Perhaps the "winnings" aren't taxed, but each machine is... correct?
We see tax stickers on our machines (at least thats what we think they are).
So, the government is getting something from them?

Yes, the whole industry is taxed heavily. So much, in fact, that if they were to outlaw pachinko and pachislo as gambling, it would cause a a fairly long term yet minor governmental fiscal crisis.

...and remember, in my trip two weeks ago, I saw a medium-large parlor on nearly EVERY BLOCK of the commercial districts of Tokyo and Kyoto...

...it's fairly hard to conceive of the extent that Pachinkos and Pachislos are integrated into daily life unless you go to Japan...in the big cities, they're EVERYWHERE!...and they're taxed like every other business.

Yes, they will always be located near the station (called "ekimae" parlors) or on the shopping streets. The ekimae parlors are usually the best for getting decent wins.

Also, I'm not sure if it's the largest parlor, but it's the largest that I've seen...in Shibuya, about a five minute walk from the station, there's a four floor parlor (one floor for pachislo, three for pachinko) with each floor about the size of a Denny's.

Here's a picture of the front:

Honestly,I'm not a gambler. But pachinko machines really hold my interest. Slots are boring,no control what so ever, pure luck. At least with pachinko you have a small but more control than a slot. Is there any really mastering the game? Do they have pro pachinko players that win more than the house?
And I don't know but is it true that parlors bend the nails on machines that lose to much? Like everybody here,I have a handfull of machines but Don't see any tampering on any of them myself so is that just a rumor?

    1) While there is no mastering of pachinko, the way to sway odds in your favor is to master the patterns of the machines and data. Data (meaning odds, fluctuations, etc.), in particular, is absolutely necessary to understanding how the game plays and what you will get out of it, if anything. Most importantly, it can give you an idea when it's time to quit playing which is the key to gambling.

    2) Sure there are pachi pros. Check the section "machines I own" under my profile :

    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/member.php?u=2312

I wouldn't be considered a pro but it might give you a decent idea of how the details in my answer above can help.

    3) Parlors have a pattern of how they set the pins/nails. For example if you have an island of six machines together it will usually be:

    GOOD-OK-OK-BAD-OK-BAD-GOOD

You will usually see people playing in the machines on the aisle sides first as a general rule. But, again, pins/nails don't mean anything unless you understand that data; that's a little understood fact of pachinko.

Japan would make a great trip. I wonder what a decent and clean hotel room goes for.

Be careful about your statement that you have no control over slots. Eye-shooting does payoff at certain times on certain machines.

I assume he was referring to slots in the west, not pachislo. I had the same initial reaction though.

You could be right. In this forum I naturally think Pachislo first!

No, very different. They are only really similar in look, gameplay is closer to pachinko though (thus pachinko+slot=pachislo).

Do you mean you can control the reels unlike Vegas slots? There are no balls to this game? How is it like Pachinko?
