Default CR Western Hero (for sokoloto and compirate)

    WesternHeroK[1].jpg

This machine was produced by Heiwa in 1999 which was their era - they released several great machines during the same time (the first Lupin the 3rd, Dolphin Ring, Weather Studio, and several "wing type machines). Western Hero was a sleeper hit from this time as it didn't rely on a license and, quality-wise, wasn't as strong. There are four versions of this machine A (full spec), K (half spec, pictured above), R (a low-spec "cash" machine), and Western Kid V (a sort of offshoot low-spec "cash" machine). Gameplay among all these machines is exactly the same.

Reel numbers on this machine are 0-9, pistols, cash bag, and "All Mighty" (represented as a picture of a cowboy and acts as a Joker in cards in that it can match up with any other number for a reach and/or win). The big bonus numbers are 3, 5, 6, 7, pistols, and cash bag. The machine awards 5 balls for start pocket entry, 9 for subpockets, and 15 for each ball that enters the jackpot door during bonus rounds. There is no limiter on all versions of this machine and it has a "redraw" feature with wins on 0, 2, and 8 (normally regular bonus numbers) allowing a very high chance of a big bonus.

This machine only has 2 yokoku (you can see them here):

Rain yokoku - If you see rain falling while the reels are spinning, you will automatically get a reach and a high chance of a super reach after that. Before the rain scene, if the screen darkens, the above will occur plus you will be given a higher flat chance of winning.

"Slide" yokoku - If the right reel "slides" down, it will automatically cause an "All mighty" reach with whichever number matches up with it on the middle reel. very high chance of winning.

There are six reaches (you can see them here):

Normal reach - Left and right reels match up, nothing special happens. Almost no chance of winning
Long Reach - During normal reach, screen background changes pink and right reel will move slower. Very low chance of winning.
Tornado Reach - Similar to long reach, screen background changes pink but right reel number will "twist" around slowly changing into the next number. OK chance of winning.
Step-up Reach - Screen background changes to night scene with full moon in the back. Left reel will stop and middle and right reels will match up and slowly scroll down. Fair chance of winning.
Rodeo Reach - Screen background changes to cowboy on a bronco. Fair chance of winning.
Bar Reach - Screen background changes to bar scene. OK chance of winning.

There are also three premium 100% chance of win patterns (you can see them here):

Thunder Reach: Screen background changes to thunderstorm scene.
Typhoon Reach: Screen background changes to typhoon/hurricane scene. 100% chance of win and big bonus.
Rainbow Chance: Screen background color changes to rainbow. 100% chance of win and 66% flat chance of big bonus.

    Very nicely done Rupan !

Makes one wonder if anything like this is available for the Star Wars Pachinko that so many of us requested awhile back

Star Wars has a more complex game system. It's coming, probably later next week.

I've just joined this forum and drug this post up 'from beyond the grave' because I just came across a Western Hero machine in a flea market. The previous owner said that it works, but the woman running the flea market couldn't get it to work. I gave it a shot, and couldn't get the balls into the machine. I've only played pachinko machines at a few arcade game and pinball conventions, so I'm sure I wasn't doing something right. It seemed to run fine, I just didn't know how to get it started. It had a little blurb on the front, something about a card system, which I would assume would be like a credit card/casino card type of thing that would keep your credit balance on it. If I went back and bought it (she was charging $75 for it, with a box of balls) how would I go about making it run?

I'd appreciate any advice you could give me.

Was it just not firing balls into the playfield? If turning the knob wasn't working the CR bypass dongle may be loose or missing. It's a DB25 (parallel port type) connector with a few components soldered on it, some are bare, some have a hood. It connects to the back of the machine to a female DB25 connection on the lower right of the back.

From the site of one of our members, Daverob:

Pachinko Pre-paid Card and Card Reader Unit History and Technical Information by Pinball Dave

If it isn't there, then it won't shoot - unless someone has done another modification. If you at least want to test out if it plays, open the front glass - there's a small catch lever on the back left side about half way down. With the machine on, drop a couple balls in the center pocket and see if the music plays and the screen does anything.

The woman at the flea market didn't have a copy of the key, so I couldn't open it up. Ah, well. The flea market won't be open tomorrow but it will on Monday, so hopefully I can make up my mind whether or not to go back out there and get it or not. Thanks for the help.

Is it in a full cabinet? Otherwise the back is open and the latch to open the front is accessible.

It wasn't a full cabinet, there was access to the back. Everything was in Japanese, so I couldn't exactly gain much info from that.

After calling up my brother (who I was going to give the machine to as a present) about it, I've decided not to go back and get it. So if there's anyone in the northeast part of Louisiana who wants a Western Hero machine, it's in a little flea market shack on the northwest corner of Parker Lane and State Road 425 just north of the town of Winnsboro. She wanted $75 for it, but you might be able to haggle her down a bit (I can't haggle worth anything, so I didn't try). Good luck!
