My wife doesn't cook, however Thanksgiving is the only exception. She prefers/demands to do the entire meal by herself every year and I get in trouble for making any suggestions or interfering in the least. Somehow I managed to convince her to try soaking the turkey in this brine recipe this year, so we are using it for the first time... with one change: she is insists that we skip the "aromatics" and put stuffing in the bird. I'm sure it will turn out just fine and this recipe will become a tradition for us every year to come.

After all of the reviews and feedback from the members here about the recipe, I am very excited and can't wait to see how it turns out.

I also brined mine again...but this time I used a different recipe. I've been watching "The CHEW" lately (replacement show for All My Children that went off the air) and they have been doing Thanksgiving food for about a month now ... anyway Chef Mario Batali explained that a brine can be anything you want as long as you balance the salt with a sweet and he gave the proportions for each, so I went ahead and experimented a little. My brine consisted of Sea Salt, Maple Syrup, Sugar, Fresh Rosemary (that survived our snowstorm) along with some lemons and oranges. I rinsed the turkey well and dried it before seasoning it for the oven. My fingers are crossed that my gravy doesn't taste like Maple Syrup!

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it... and an enjoyable day to all who do not!

Just lowered the Turkey into the fryer. In about 55 min, we should have a nice and tasty bird to eat!

Hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Well... since you asked I have to say this turkey was the best I've made in years!!!and as a bonus, it was beautiful. I can't say that I've ever had a beautiful turkey before, this could have been on the cover of a magazine. I cooked at home and sent everything up to the diner to eat there. When I finished the bread (which I did NOT burn ) I went to meet everyone and my husband had already carved it or I would have taken pictures.

It was delicious and moist...didn't even need gravy...but who can pass on gravy? No maple flavor whatsoever, just goodness. My gravy was a bit on the salty side, so I'm not sure if it was from the brine or if I just messed that up myself, but it was still good. I tried creamed onions for the first time, and the general consensus was it should be the last time.

Our turkey was very moist and tasty, however it seemed just a tad salty to me. I will cut back on the salt a little next time, but I think soaking the bird in brine before cooking is a new family tradition.

This is an awesome brine recipe for your Thanksgiving bird! If you haven't tried it, you should. Your bird will come out juicy and tender.
