These LEDs are quite tough cookies. Despite being over spec'd with the extra voltage, they seem to handle it quite well. It will probably shorten their life span but I didn't see any signs of immediate failure. However I am running all mine on the 820 Ohm resistors only.

That being said, where I said "the right reel is fixed using 6 of the Super-flux Pirhana White LEDs on the original 820 Ohm limiting resistors but the 750 Ohm has not been removed or cut (i.e. the simplest, quickest, cheapest fix)." below, it's not much more trouble to clip the 750 Ohm resistors off, and it should be done as fronzdan suggests.

Great work, guys! Even though I only have one slight color-change on my Monkey Magic, I'll probably be getting some replacement LEDs so I don't experience a failure in the future.

You know what's weird noobie....and I hope I'm not jinxing myself here....but my Monkey Magic has been ALMOST free of LED board problems as well. One pair on one board went out with the same failure mode we've all seen shortly after I got it. Gaku sent a "used" replacement and all reels have been working perfectly ever since. My Hanabi on the other hand came from a very reputable dealer, but all the boards it came had failures or developed failures within a couple days of light usage. They sent three replacement boards and one was DOA and the other two started failing shortly afterwards.

I think Hanabi is older than Monkey Magic, right? So I guess it's fair to say that boards from Hanabi machines will tend to have more failures at this point.

I have an opportunity to buy more of the SuperFlux White LEDs in bulk, and just wondering whether it's worth it. Would anyone else want their Eleco Aruze Hanabi Hyakkei, Beast Sapp or Monkey Magic Reel boards either fixed (or to get the LEDs to solder them yourself?) Keeping in mind I'm in Canada and shipping is about US$10 (give or take) and the LEDs US$0.90 each .

If you're interested PM or email me off the thread.

I'm not planning to make a living at this, but checking if other Pachilanders need some help with this.

If you want to order the Superflux LEDs directly from a US supplier, they can be obtained here from Mark Hannah: http://www.quickar.com/discrete.php?session=

    Product Number "whpir"

    Thanks,

This is a great fix. They look excellent.

Thanks to websherpa and Fronzdan for the info.

(Ask Mark if you don't believe me.)
