Exclamation How / when do flippers open - Star Wars

On a Star Wars machine, how / when do the flippers open? What events trigger it? About how often do they open during play?

Is there a way to fool the sensors to open them manally? If there is, I can't find it.

One of the pockets banks a flipper opening when a ball goes in, you can bank 4 of them.

somewhere on your playboard you will see leds lite up for the banks.

they open randomly once they are banked.

Rupan is working on a complete Star Wars Pachinko translation for us that either he or I will hopefully post here somewhere for all to enjoy. I imagine a description of those required events etc will be part of the translation...right Rupan???

Rupan has come to the Dark Side now.

This question has been asked a lot recently...maybe I'll have to make a general pachinko FAQ some day...

Anyway, the "flipper open" feature is one which is a sort of throwback and is supposed to be a kind of aid to help players get an extra chance at getting a spin or two. It is activated by shooting a ball into the "through" gate/pocket (in some machines it's marked by the word "go", "in" etc.). On the Star Wars machine, it is located just to the lower left-ish side of the LCD screen. When a ball goes through this gate, a sub-roulette starts--on this machine the sub-roulette is the LED display just below R2D2. When this roulette hits "77", the flipper will open, typically once for 0.9 seconds during normal play at a approx. fixed probability of 15%. During bonus and chance play, it's (I believe) three times consecutively for 1.2 seconds with a .02 second delay between each time and at a fixed probability of 50%. Beyond manipulating the ROM, I believe there is no way to fix the odds of it opening.

Though there is not a lot of use for this feature (though it is helpful during bonus and chance play because the reels are faster and sometimes catch up with the spin memory), with older machines, players used to trap shoot during bonus rounds thus earning the ability to get more balls. Trap shooting takes excellent timing skills and is, with most newer machines, not worth trying to achieve unless you have great patience.

For a full translation, I was thinking along the lines of, "crank the handle and wait for the balls to come out"

It would help to have the exact specs of the machine but Sankyo is notably a little tight on posting them. Other manufacturers usually don't mind.

rupan, shortly before you joined the forum, Lew and I each purchased beautiful Star Wars pachinkos from Arby.

A translation for Star Wars would be greatly appreciated.

I'll also promise you I will throw in a few extra prayers for the safety of Cody Pickett.

So Rupan see there is GREAT interest here in a STAR WARS Pachinko translation. Perhaps an area of your own could be created for these translations so we all could see and enjoy them. After all us pahitalk.com members do like to share our information.

I have heard you have done a translation or two already for other machines. Maybe posting one of those would be a good idea also?

    Thanks

    Rupan... you da man!!!

Thanks for that GREAT explanation... AND all of the other things you've helped us understand here at PachiTalk.
    We're glad you're here!

Your offer of translations is very kind... and I hope people aren't taking advantage of that kindness by pestering you to do them. All things take time, and volunteers like yourself are greatly appreciated when you share that time with us. Thanks again!

Thanks Rupan and I think you can see how I will handle this. I will share anything you do for me in any matter that pachitalk.com wants it done. I do not feel that any translation you do for me has to be kept under the wraps and it should be shared with everyone.

So keep in mind that any translation you do for me that I request is actually a translation that I feel that not just I am interested in but several others here are or will be in the future.

Take your time as that is one thing we have plenty of for sure!

    Again thanks!!

I agree 100%, Lew. The more people that can share in the translations the more worthwhile it makes them. And the beauty of this forum is that it can provide (best via the museum IMO) the record of these translations for all current and future Pachi-addicts to enjoy! Further solidifying the future of this hobby!

Is this information regarding the purpose of the two-digit LED (still) accurate? It seems to conflict with other info (posted to the forum later) and it certainly doesn't behave that way on my ZF unit.

    Thanks guys.

Unlike most newbies to countless online forums, I do like to research before I ask... if for nothing else... courtesy to the existing members. Usually the search functions on forums suck, but this site seems to be pretty good. Though there are "insider terms" I still have yet to fully understand. Gotta learn the lingo I guess.

Another problem is that sometimes old info is inaccurate and can be confusing when read out of timeline context.

That must be the case with the LED display. Other than this reference I can't find anything definitive regarding the purpose.

Different models have different features and specs. I don't remember where I got my data from (it was not from physical research but from a Japanese website) but it may be that data was from a different model than the ZF which is, incidentally, a full-spec machine.
