Question How would i go about returning my popeye to non cyclic?

After much playing on my popeye with its recirculating mod, i have been thinking about returning it to its original state. It is fun not worrying about the balls but i feel im missing out.

The mod was done before i got it so i have no idea where i should be looking & how to remove it.

    Any ideas pachinko fans,

    Thanks in advance

Who did the mod and can you supply pictures? Some of the mods remove the equipment to return them back to normal. My LOTR's no longer has a top hopper so it will be cyclic forever. Which is fine with me but as an example of what different mods can be done to create the cyclic version.

Well my popeye still has its top hopper so it can pay out balls as you win them.

Not sure where i should be looking round the back of the machine. Im guessing theres somthing thats gone across the hole so the balls go back to the feed tray.

Sorry im not more help describing it but i dont know exactly what im meant to be looking for near the bottom.

Well i have had a look at the bottom round the back & i think i have found where the balls were meant to come from but acess to it is restricted as there are circuit boards & stuff covering it so i cant get to the mod.

I took a few pics but i dont know if they will be of any help.
As you can see everything looks like its there to return it back to non cyclic.

this is the bit thats blocking me access, the ball hole is just below the dongle

    Heres the hole itself

And round the front, this is the most i can see. It looks like there is some plastic across the back.

I have an awful feeling im going to have to take it apart quite a lot to get at the mod EEK so many wires im sweating just thinking about it.

Well unless you have the ball track that leads from the top hopper that appears to be missing, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

there is allot of cutting that goes on to make it cyclic, a thing to try is do a hard reset than fill the top reward tray. Now open the window and with the machine on drop a ball in the start pocket. See if it pays off ?

If it does than you got the best of both worlds.

I have tested the ball payout sensors & they all work. It still pays out balls like its meant to. They all come down normally to join the rest of the balls in the lower feed tray.

I also have a popeye that I want to make cyclic and be able to change back to non cyclic at a later point. Any easy way to do it that can be shown in pics or on paper. Also have a Thunderbird that seems to be easier to work with. Any suggestions, especially popeye. I have been stalling to do it, but want to start the project. Pics are always best.

Unhappy Re: How would i go about returning my popeye to non cyclic?

Well after more digging around today i have noticed exactly where the mod is & it seems to be coverd in silicone sealant.

Problem is i cant get the blue cover off the back as they put it on while the sealent was still wet so its partially stuck to the machine. I should be able to prise it apart but i need to know what a sammy pachinko looks like under all that silicone so i can see if they hacked off any bits i needed.

    Heres some pics.

Thanks slotter. I have seen the thread before but never closely enough. Thanks, I was just hoping someone had done a popeye spefically.

The PopEye is a Sammy machine. I have Lion Heart (Savanna Chance) which is also a Sammy machine. Your pictures are exactly as my machine looks. What I have found is that I can by-pass the pay out function by simply unplugging the rotary valve that dumps the balls for a payout. This works great in that I only have to keep the feed tray full. Everything goes to the back and into the bottom dump tray. The problem with this, however, is that the computer is counting every ball that needs to be paid out. The moment I plug the rotary valve back in it starts turning andwill not stop until the requisite number of balls have passed through it. Potentially thousands and thousands. The computer counting the payouts does not reset regardless of what you do. So the longer you play with out the payout function working the bigger the number gets.
I guess this would not be an issue if you never intend to go back to a non-cyclic funtion.

Have you tried a Hard Reset ? Every one I have it works on.

Are you saying that on a Sammy if you do a hard reset that the payout counter will clear itself? I can't get mine to clear.. Just have to keep putting the balls through it until it reachs the right amount...

After making the previous reply I went and played around with the plug to the ball dump motor. You are right.. If I make sure I hold the yellow reset button for over 5 sec when I turn the machine on it clears the count.. I don't think I was holding it long enough or I hadn't specifically tried a hard boot to clear the count. Who know???? I'm going to play around with it some more to make sure I turely understand what is going on.. Thanks..

    Importaku,
Will you be going to the Play4charity event at Coventry? I will be displaying again there, details on my web site. www.pachinkos.co.uk

If you like I could swap the machine for a normal unit to save you making the mod?
Seems pointless you changing it back if I have original set up units. Let me know asap so I can keep one for you.
Else I can do by post but it'll cost you postage each way.

Thanks for the very kind offer Nik,

Its ok, im not super desparate to play non cyclic but i must admit it would be nice to see what its like having to refill like crazy in fever mode

I would have liked to come to the play4charity event but its a little too far for me to get to as i have no transport. It was nice seeing you again at the uk pinball show, glad to see that you were doing well.
