Default did anyone get taken by this ebay seller?

two nights ago I bid on and won a Bruce Lee pachinko machine later that night I got an email to pay for it but as I live in Canada I had to request different shipping charges so I did that and then the next day I checked my email for a reply and there was none. When I went back to my ebay page to check there I found beside the vendors name NO LONGER A REGISTERED EBAY USER. Boy this made me think how very close I came to loosing $200.00 or more dollars real fast. That night I remember he had many listings on ebay and now I am wondering if any one reading this got taken. The ebayer,s name is wholesalestr82u.------SOKO

    Yep,

Did you check his feedback first?

Also, ALWAYS be wary of ANY seller that says use xyz@xyz.com email instead of their ebay contact info. A common scam is to hijack a user id and then post in big bold letters to contact them at the email address and not through ebay.

Glad to hear you hadn't paid yet.

Usually if they can steal your password, they will log on to ebay and change it, so you don't have access anymore.

there are loads of fake emails from ebay and paypal trying to sucker people into logging on thru their web sites.

You can have paypal investigate that i know, and i think there is a way for paypal to put a "hold" on the funds. I'd look into that..

Luckydog and David make some very good points about some of the scams out there with ebay; I may be teaching my granny to suck eggs here but I'll list just a few examples for those that dont know....

If anyone receives an email from Paypal asking them to login via a link in the mail then caution is required. Examples of these sorts of scams (known as Phishing) are warnings of suspicious and possibly fraudulent activity from a foreign user, or a bogus confirmation of payment for goods youve not placed a bid upon. The link usually takes you to a page that looks like Paypal but is actually a very clever copy which is designed to pinch your username and password. Once they have these two pieces of information, the fraudsters have access to your money. Eeek.

As far as ebay auctions go, be wary of sellers offering to end auctions early, user-ids with little or no positive feedback, new seller accounts under 30 days old and people who want you to send money via methods (Such as Western Union) that cannot be refunded should the goods not turn up. Dont be fobbed off with sellers telling you that they need the money to move house, because of redundancy, an urgent operation for little Suzy, etc etc. Ask for additional pictures, and even see if you cant call a bluff by asking to see the goods in person and checking them out.

There are some really nice people out there selling quality goods on ebay. There are also some completely dreadful toe-rags with the morals of a dead slug who just want your money (mostly for criminal ends) and have no intention of sending anything to anyone. Let the buyer beware and ask as many questions as you can while the auction is running - most pukka sellers are only too happy to answer questions with honesty and enthusiasm in order to sell their wares.

    Cheers,

    Foxy

...I hate to say it but I think the seller is lying to you.
I got an email from Ebay (because I was bidding on this guy's stuff too) and I posted that in my Sonic Pachinko thread.
Here it is again--- His account was suspended....
Please be advised that the following auction:
6222192074 - SONIC THE HEDGE HOG PACHINKO PINBALL MACHINE SLOT
was ended early by eBay. The auction was ended due to the account suspension of the seller.
All results for this auction are null and void.

Notify Paypal asap, Ebay will tell them the auction is void. You should get your money back.

Just having your account or item suspended dosent actually mean anything to worry about.
I bought an upgrade Mac program. After I paid I also got a msg from eBay that the seller was yada yada & the aution was null & void etc etc.
eBay had even gone so far as to void the sale out of "My Ebay" so I had no information to use to reach them as all the info just vanished.
I called Paypal, freaking out ( can I say that? ) because I had already paid. They said to give it a week to see if the item showed up or I was contacted by the seller. If not, then I should file a complaint etc...
Turns out ( in this case ) there was a problem with the listing procedures of which I never did learn the problem.
The Seller explained that they werent aware of the suspension of the auction ( sure pal! ) but would look into it blah blah.
Turns out these folks at ALLMAC. com were really great folks that I would buy from again.
Hopefully your situation will turn out ok, just dont freak out before you have to.
I would think you have some coverage with AMEX. I use my Discover thru' paypal for that very reason.
    Good luck!

If the seller is honest everything will be fine. If you don't know them well enough to trust them with $200 then report the transaction to Paypal.

This deal might go fine but there are red flags and it can't hurt to protect yourself especially since Ebay advised you that your contract is null and void.

If the seller is above board you can still do the deal. I would walk away from the transaction forthwith but to each their own.

I agree. Id at least call Paypal & inform them of the situation so they are aware.
They may possibly have some additional info for you. Contact info, reason for suspension...
But at least youll be on record as having made efforts to rectify the problem.
And they can better direct you as to how to proceed. Im sure they see this all the time & know far better than I what steps you should take.

You did the right thing. You used a credit card as your payment via PayPal. Not to worry because if you don't get it you will get a refund via your credit card. I went thru this awhile ago also and PayPal who is owned by Ebay gave me a run around. I called my credit card company and PayPal got charged back. All of a sudden PayPal started moving their butts but guess what? = I had my money. It turned into their problem not mine.
