Default With new machines come new features...

    Hi everyone,

Today I wanted to write about some new features that are appearing in newer machines these days. I noticed that there is an approximately three or four month lag between when new machines are released and when you guys actually get them so I hope that this information will be of use.

Exhibit 1: Instant Big Bonus Round Entry

Wow, that sounds like some kind of lawyer jargon, eh? Anyway, this mode has been used in many recent machines: Bisty's CR Neo Genesis Evangelion, Daiichi's CR Sea Legend, Sankyo's Yoon-Son Ah, etc. This mode appears in most machines by getting some combination of numbers/characters (for example, in the above machine CR Sea Legend, by getting 1-2-3 in the middle vertical line) or "reach eye". The machine, at these points, will allow the player into an automatic big bonus (kakuhen) round. NOTE: you do not collect the initial jackpot payout, only entry and any payouts that occur thereafter.

Exhibit 2: Instant Chance Round Entry

This system is like the above but instead of entry into the big bonus mode, the player can gain entry (but, again, not necessarily payout) into a special high chance round, similiar to the 100-spin chance rounds that occur after exiting a big bonus round. This system is "borrowed" from pachislo and has appeared in machines before but its appearance has increased recently. One example of this is Kyoraku's popular Ultra Seven machine. When a certain combination of "yokoku" events occur during normal play, the machine can enter into three higher chance modes listed in order of odds of winning, lower to higher: communications room mode, raincloud mode, Moroboshi Dan mode. All three of these modes have a finite number of spins but, again, have higher odds of winning.

Exhibit 3: The Wing-Type/Digital Pachinko Hybrid

I don't know if this will be a trend but it has popped up every once in a while. The most recent example of this hybrid is Sankyo's CRF Treasure Ship:

    http://www.sankyo-fever.co.jp/machin...le/tb/top.html

If you notice the top part of the playfield, above the digital display, there is a wing mechanism similiar to CRF Aqua Paradise, CR Big Shooter, etc. When the white "lucky" cat in the middle reel stops in the middle line of the screen, the wing opens up for about one second allowing a 10 ball? payout for each ball that can be shot into that area of the playfield. Also connected to that, if a ball gets deposited into the "lucky gate" in that area as below:

    point1_18[1].jpg

the player can get a "lucky ticket" which, if enough are collected, can be exchanged in the game (they are not real paper tickets ) for high chance reaches, extra bonus redraws, etc.

I hit this Instant Chance Rounds on the CR Fist of the North Star: Formidable Enemy by Sammy 2005 and didn't know why. It is a cool feature and you get your work out with shifting Spheres (balls). It also seems more inner active too!

If it wasn't for arby being on top of what's new and importing these in as soon as he can get his hands on them = we would have the normal 6 month to a year lag as we do with the "normal dealers".

That's right FoTNS has it as well, I think it's called a "cherry chance".

Quite true. Before I joined this board, I thought there would only be talk about vintage machines here and was surprised that it was quite the opposite.

We are an ever growing and expanding message base. Lately there's been a lot of MAME talk on the boards and I was kicking the idea around of opening a MAME subboard.

    Thoughts?

That might be good; just hope it doesn't being in too many non-pachi fan members though.

I suppose it might be we're basically hidden from the search spiders, so not a lot would know about it. It might also have the effect of bringing non pachi people into pachi as well.

I agree with arby and Bilko. MAME is too general and has very few pachinko/pachislo simulations.

Visual Pinball has several simulations that don't border on copyright violations since they don't depend on copyrighted roms. Pinmame requires roms also. So the answer here from me is if anything : cover the legal simulations for Visual Pinball and of course Rupans idea of covering the Pachinko/Pachislo simulations on consoles is a great idea also

Tough Call.. there is a lot of mame stuff out there are already... it might just be recycling whats being said over and over again..

I still get a kick out of nearly every site that mentions mame has the same intro. i am sure you all know it

"Mame is an arcade machine emulator. Started in 1997 by Nicola Salmoria, mame started out as a series of emulators for individual games. ......."

although i am pretty new here i think you got a unique thing going and you should stay specialized pachislo and pachinko... (oh yeah and the contest thread )

    thats my 3 tokens/metals worth........

It seems to me though (and I may be getting this incorrect) to have a MAME board embedded into the greater Pachitalk website would not collect any outsiders per say unless it were advertised by fellow members. As it stands, with my understanding of google (as an example), we wouldn't rank in the top 50 or so pages for even a "pachinko" search.

So, I renege on my initial reluctance and say fire away. I don't think it will hurt anything and it would give those interested in the topic a comfortable place to talk about the topic. Maybe it can be thrown in the soap box and given a broader topic of "Other pachitalk member hobbies"?

Here is my opinion. We have a specialist site here for a niche of members - that keeps it "pure" to quote Arby. I don't believe that this forum has any practical competition -and if we stay focused on our strength we will maintain the best clientele. If we branch out we may become diluted and lose the stature we presently enjoy - i.e. just becoming another MAME board with Pachinko thrown in - especially if you wonder about the number of hits for MAME websites that Arby reveals.

It could be like when companies start diversifying - it works for a while and then they start realizing all sorts of headaches because of the variety of issues that arise due to them spreading themselves too thin - and they find themselves shrinking back to their core competencies. I wouldn't want that to happen to this forum.

I know nothing about MAME or its software but I also worry about whether there are any illegal activities that could be promulgated here with distribution of copyrighted software (or links to it published) that might require our administrator to be spending more time policing the activities. Of course Tulsa if you want to do that it's up to you but I would rather see you maintaining/improving our site related to Pachis, for which you and your helpers have done such a fine job, rather than you getting diluted on something else (that's a bit of selfish-speak but you are key in making this site enjoyable for us users).

Well the idea was strictly for board members. Like I said, we are hidden from the search spiders. Our site ranking takes major hits because of this but we aren't here for site rankings. We are still averaging new users on a great pace so the word is getting out somehow.

The mame idea was from discussions about this topic in the past and I was wondering if people felt like it would be a benefit to them for a specific section. I have no mame anything myself and know very little about it.

It would appear that a distinct majority would prefer not to have such a thing and that's all good with me. What discussion does occur will still occur someplace on the site. Not structured, but available if you're willing to use the search functions.

    So no mame board.

I don't have any MAME stuff either but, to reiterate what I said, that's why it might be a good idea to have an imbedded "other member's hobbies" board so we could discuss whatever else (videogames, RC stuff, train kits, etc.) along with MAME stuff. In addition, I doubt this type of board would attract any search spiders. After all, there is a "Fantasy Football" board here and I doubt it would rank on the top 1000 pages if it were on google.
